Dana has had 4.5 years as head of the WVU football program. The full 4 years were in the Big 12 where WVU went 7-5, 4-8, 7-5, and 8-5. Some big wins against OSU and Baylor during that time, but embarrassing losses to ISU and KU. Not to mention getting crushed by 3+ scores by at least 2 teams in all but one of those seasons. Unless you are of the opinion that WVU cannot realistically aspire to better than the results of those 4 seasons or that you've seen evidence that WVU is moving toward a brighter future, the lack of a contract extension is not at all suprising. Sure, you can sell the program stability with an extension. However if you are not of the two opinions mentioned previously, you don't want to give up anything. Therefore, if DH wants an extension that requires any more of a financial commitment than is already in the current contract, it makes sense that they would not want to commit.
