So, you're criticizing State for *increasing* ticket sales...[link]

From Matt Hinton's Dr. Saturday blog, Mississippi State fans eagerly anticipate inevitable bloodbath:

Bulldogs partisans are optimistic people, obviously, and generally decent folk; a good percentage of my closest relatives are in that number. But, as excited as they are about new boss Dan Mullen and, I dunno, the new uniforms and all, I can't help but think they're setting themselves up as the unwitting spectators in a kind of bizarro gladiator scene, where the Christians flock in the tens of thousands to the Coliseum to see themselves fed to the lions. ...

Yeah, damn us for increasing ticket sales. We should take our cues from USM, which is hoping to break 17k in ticket sales.

calls his alma mater? Hell, there is no telling how many people, like myself are coming back simply because LT is gone.

we all know that it is going to be tough to win this year but damn it i can't help but want to see the changes in the team. being excited about football instead of focusing on the impending doom is actually nice for once. now, i don't have much wool concerning our chances to win more than 3 or 4 games but at least i don't have to see our coach waddling down the side lines scratching his head and wondering why in the world his awesome west coast offense that is so perfect in every way isn't working yet aGAIN.

I agree with you. What this guy doesn't understand is that, even though we know we're going to get beaten badly by these teams, there is a plausible hope for us to actually score during the game. This blogger doesn't get that for the last 5 years we haven't experienced touchdowns, deep passes, break away running plays, etc... Even when we lose, I'll be much happier losing 28-14 than 36-3. I can't believe I actually said that, but its true. Anyone person who is a fan of a team that loses 3-2 understands where I'm coming from. The pain and agony can't even really be described. Damn Crxxms.

Oh, I know exactly where you are coming from.

Even during Crxxm's one good year, 2007, when we had the ball, I just prayed for no turnovers and a good punt. As you all know, our best chance to score was to pin an opponent deep in their territory and hope for a pick6 or scoop and score. It is sad when you know your offense has absolutely ZERO chance of putting together a drive for a TD. Maybe this year, that changes.

you know, even if that doesn't change, i will be happy to not see the same square peg being crammed into the same round whole for an entire season. living with a bad offense that changes often to try to win is one thing but what we endured for 5 seasons was just damn uncalled for.

The frustration that we've experienced for the last, oh I don't know, five years is going to be gladly kicked away once we see receivers catching long passes, or even receivers catching passes, and offensive drives that last longer than a couple of minutes. At least we're heading in the right direction, because with Croom you always had to think you would never experience a really good season. There was no hope. Now, we have hope.

On a lighter note, AgentDawg, who is that in your avatar? Random, I know, but damn.

Scott Field expansion. If the demand is there, build more seats.

A problem, but not a bad one to have.

The season ticket sales don't really surprise me: A. We have a new coach. B. We have good fans- we drew well during the Croom and Felker years, especially considering the product on the field, and we drew very well during the Sherrill years. C. We have an AD that will advertise and try to sell tickets.

It all adds up.

turd sandwich is the losing season we will endure as prognosed by most on this board. i'm as excited about mullen as the next guy and i'll be at all the games, BUT i don't expect much this season, no need for that author to compare the bulldogs to martyrs though, its football, and still a good time.

i was referring mainly to how great the marketing for this season has been. but the replacement definitely had a lot to do with it as well.

Byrne will take the smallest amount of momentum given to him and take full advantage of it.
