Would you swap places with Mexico right now & be in Group A with South Africa, France and Uruguay?

Big time sell for me!

If you had asked me after the first round of drawing I would I given anything to be in Mexico's shoes in Group A instead of in England's group.

not a tough group but any of them could beat us out of the top 2. Much better chance with England and more importantly Slovenia and Algeria. Hell I think I'd rather play England than any South American side.

We are clearly top 2 in our group....at least on paper, we should make it out of the group. Like you said, there is going to be a dog fight to finish in the top 2 in Group A.

I think we got a great draw. I was little pissed when Mexico got put into South Africa's group (they always seem to get an easy group) but in hindsight, we knew we were going to get at least one tough team. We were fortunate not to get another second tough team like Group G. As Alexi Lalas said, if you can't beat Algeria and Slovenia, you have no business getting to the second round anyway.

i would have switched after the pot 2 draw, wouldn't now. we got about as easy as could be hoped. i'm drinking this lucky wine again in four years.

it's by no means guaranteed that we advance. even slovenia, who we're happy to play, eliminated russia to get there. but it's set up nicely for us, almost literally as perfect as could be under the pot 2 circumstances. and here's where it helps having one of the best teams in your group (instead of south africa, for example) - hopefully england will take care of business and other teams won't want take points off them. an added benefit is that england likely won't have the top spot wrapped up after only two games, and will play to win v slovenia to avoid a likely german top spot in group d.

some location notes because i'm celebrating:

our game v england (rustenburg) is on the same field as the one we beat egypt 3-0 to miraculously advance in the confed cup.
our game v slovenia (johannesburg) is on the same field as the one we lost to brazil 3-2 in the final
our game v algeria (pretoria), likely needing a result, is the same field as we lost to brazil 3-0
c2 v d1 (germany?) in the last sixteen (bloemfontain), same field as the 2-0 spain win
c1 v d2 (ghana/australia/serbia?) in last sixteen (rustenburg), see above.

This draw is a hell of a lot better than I expected.
1-1-1 may be enough to get us through.

That being said, I still have no idea what our offensive
style is under Bradley. Hopefully we don't just play for
the draw each match.

Obviously, beforehand I was hoping to be drawn in Group A with South Africa. After the full draw, though, we couldn't have asked for much better.

Also, while hoping to be drawn into Group A, I was hoping NOT to be drawn A2, as Mexico was. I don't care who the host is, you don't want to play them in the opening match. Mexico was done no favors.

Outside of getting drawn into Group A, our hopes were:
1. get an African team other than Cameroon or Ivory Coast.
2. get either Slovenia or Slovakia.

That we got both of those is incredible. The odds were HIGHLY in favor of us ending up in a nightmare group, just given how the pots were decided.
