One of those, "if you don't like it, don't read it" type threads. The "SOCCER POST" is just letting you know "hey, they're going to be talking about soccer a lot in this thread."</p>

don't watch this crap that is being played right now. You're wasting DVR space. I'd rather be recording the Little Mermaid than this ****! It's sad how far the USA has dropped.</p>

From a blown handball call away from a potential World Cup Semifinal 7 years ago, to getting skull-17d by every team we play outside the US that isn't a third-world country. Freaking terrible.

We should have hired Klinsmann when we had the chance. It's still not too late. We could hire him tomorrow. I said two years ago that we needed to hire a European coach and I still think we do. If we're going to insist on an American, let's at least get somebody like Preki.

We got a great draw in the 1st knockout round when we drew Mexico. We did play well that tournament, but we weren't one of the best 8 teams in the world by any stretch of the imagination.

It's time for Gulati to pull a Cohen and clean house from the head coach down. The majority of these players just cannot play soccer on the World Cup level.</p>

<17> Gulati. From what I recall it was Gulati that screwed up the entire Klinsman hiring b/c he wouldn't give up any of his control over the program and Klinsman essentially wanted to have complete control over the men's national team.

He's more concerned about trying to prop MLS up than he is with developing a good national team. As it is, he's failing at both jobs. And the breaking point with Klinnsmann was that Klinnsmann want to play the A-team in both the Gold Cup and the Copa America that summer, but Gulati insisted on playing the A-team in the Gold Cup and the B-team in Copa America, mainly because he didn't want MLS players to miss that much of the season.

If we're going to run the MLS and the national team as a joint venture then the MLS players should be available for every match. It's not like their team is going to get relegated.

And speaking of MLS and relegation, I read an article online a little while back that suggested that with the new expansion era of MLS that they may be (unintentionally) progressing towards the possibility of a 2-tiered league. I think there's supposed to be 20 teams by 2012. I wonder at what point do they decide that there are too many teams for one division?

There is no doubt that we have regressed. Hell, this team isn't as good of a team as the 1998 team that beat Brazil.

The biggest reason is that the young stars from 2002 have not improved at all 7 years later!

IMO, Dempsey and Beasley should be left off the roster from here on out. I don't see them bringing anything to the table anymore.

I really think we should make a serious effort to throw the younger guys out there.

I'm still trying to figure out why neither Torres nor Adu has seen the field the last two games.

Actually, that was a cheap shot. Michael Bradley does deserve to be on the field no matter who the coach is. But as to the Adu question, plenty of people have been wondering about that for a long time.

Bradley has improved dramatically from his first few starts with the National team and has been, as of late, our best and most consistent player.

He very much deserves to be there.

If I were putting the lineup in place for the Egypt game:

Howard
Spector Onyewu Boconegra
Bradley
Clark Torres Adu
Donovan
Altidore Davies

If nothing more for (1) playing time for Clark, Davies, Adu, and Torres and (2) a more agressive "winning is the only thing that helps" attitude.

i remember him being one of our more exciting offensive players, but again, i don't watch much soccer, so i haven't really kept up since 2006.

I think part of Dempsey's problem is that he's suited to be a role player and not to be a star. It's not that he's necessarily playing that badly, it's just that he's not a guy we need to be counting on to lead the team.

very well over there. I just see somebody who tries too hard to get fouls called. Rather than really go after somebody and try to beat them one on one, he tries to dribble a little and wait for them to step in. Once they step, he falls if they touch him. It makes me sick. It is one thing to know when to go down and let the foul get called, but he wants all contact to be called and it isn't going to happen. He is turrible when it comes to that.
