If you get 2 yellows or 1 red card in this game, you are out of the opening game of the World Cup in South Africa. Told ya, FIFA was as crazy as NCAA! Jozy Altidore just got a yellow.

well now that we're down 2-0, you might as well take your top 3 players that are in jeopardy of missing the next game out.

I'm not bothering to book hotel rooms past the group stage. Our defense is an abomination. We are going to get eaten alive against European and South American sides.

I'm assuming that the rule is in place, like any other situation where a card carries over, to prevent players from feeling like they can play wreckless during the last game of a round.

I think they could adjust the rule and suspend a player for a wreckless challenge after the fact. The downside of the rule is, if Altidore gets a second yellow he is out. The first was kind of soft, IMO.

I think you play the regulars until the second half. Take out Altidore, because of the yellow, as well as Bradley and Onyewu, two players who have moments of carelessness which leads to silly cards.

with seconds left in the 9th minute. I'm wondering if he rushed it for that. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Perhaps it was just Conner Casey being the international Conner Casey we've come to know.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think 2 yellow cards do not (Direct red cards do) carry over to the next stages in World Cup. (It wasn't the case in the 1990 World Cup. Argentine star Caniggia got a second yellow in the semifinals vs Italy and had to miss the finals vs Germany. I think FIFA changed the rules after that incident)

Anyway, why do it from qualifiers to World Cup when they don't do it within different stages in World Cup games?

without him, we lose to Honduras and are currently up **** creek for qualifying.

My concern is our back line. We are horrible defensively. And with our great standing with FIFA, we will probably get grouped with Portugal and Argentina and get the **** beat out of us.

but a few of the players have been cautious at times they are normally more physical. Onyewu's defense on the first goal is a great example. You could actually see him making an effort not to be too physical.

Peter Crouch of England (except Conor Casey is not a bean pole)...no ball skills whatsoever but can tap the ball in the goal at times.

They might look ugly more often than not, but they definitely battle from start to finish. On to South Africa. For Costa Rica, they are toast. Honduras is in for the first time since '82, so huge for them.

Gave me goosebumps..Gosh, I hope we can make a deep run like that in South Africa. We should have been in the semis in 2002..dammit, ref!!

12-04-09 is a huge date in the sports calendar...World Cup draw. I pray we get a good draw.

seem possible!

So, if that is indeed true, they are basically making it to the World Cup for the first time.

It would be the same as us saying the run we made in the 1960 World Cup is something to remember! LOL

That was such a great summer! I quit a job to watch the game against Mexico. I hadn't arranged to be off and the owner didn't feel like it warranted a last second request. I did.

The funny thing about that Germany game is...we might have played as well as we've EVER played. We played a very good game, even the German players and coaches admitted that they probably were lucky to leave with a win.

The non-call still pisses me off. And it does even more so when I see the US get called for ticky-tack **** in the box (like the handball against Honduras on Saturday which could have been let go). The one against Germany was so obviously a handball and not only that, it directly stopped a scoring chance. Regardless of intent, that should have been called.

Regardless, I suppose I'll be taking an off day on the 4th of December.

but can't string them together. Even in the crapfest of 2006, we were the only team to get a point from Italy.

I hope we see that Confederations Cup team next summer. That was something to watch against Spain. We looked like a top 5 world team that day.

all the old folks fled to El Salvador after the coup? I kid.

They deserve it, though. I used to travel to Honduras on business. Those folks are serious about their futbol. I've seen the stadium that the USA played in on Saturday, too, pretty impressive, even though its a little dated. They are awfully proud of that place in San Pedro Sula. I bet all of my old friends from our mfg plant there were at the game.
