Why is Ludington wrestling unattached? Doesn’t he get 5 competitions to preserve his RS?
Was just about to ask the same question. I suppose though that all true fresh should just wrestle unattached in tourneys instead of burning a date.

There was only 1 slam dunk guy and the timing wasn't right.

Askren might have been an interesting guy but he has serious health issues and who really wants a guy who has openly stated how much he hates Iowa Wrestling? Dake and JB, no thanks.
Agree with all of this. I love how Askren thinks and strategizes but his recent health scare is a concern…which is just sad and unfortunate. What about Schwab? He and the Brands still on good terms? Genuine question

Other than scoring team points, which didn't matter since we didn't even fill out a full lineup to try and win it, no reason to waste it. In the end it doesn't matter if they use all five or not, but just in case you end up needing it. They may still want him to compete in some second semester tournaments as well to get his work in, so those require being attached.

I don't think they have on good terms for awhile. Schwab in a recent interview said he use to call every year to ask if a dual could be set up but was turned down or not answered many years so he has quit calling. Something went down but never seen anything public about it and Brands isn't doing UNI any favors.

Couldn’t stand Dake but my passion/love for Hawkeye wrestling would allow me to happily give him or JB a shot! Just to many issues with the current regime that I can’t continue to look away from. The refusal to make assistant coaching changes and burning bridges with to many former wrestlers has been enough!

He doesn’t like Iowa because of Brands. He doesn’t care for their persona, how they run the program, techniques, etc. He doesn’t have an issue with the state or the school.

His prognosis is very good. It isn’t like he needs to go hard in practice. He would also surround himself with studs. He should be the guy if he still wants the job.

I’ve said it before and will say it again. Schwab is Brands without all the BS. Has the same issues with grinding guy down, injuries, falling short of expectations. He is a fantastic guy and would attract some good assistant coach talent. He would represent us well. But he’s where he should be, IMHO.

JW showed potential this weekend if he can continue to put it together through the grind of the B10 schedule. Not sure what is wrong with Bailey, but something is absolutely going on with him healthwise. I'm concerned with BK not being healthy either. I'm afraid it is going to be a lingering injury all year with him. Going into the B10 schedule those are the 3 weights that will make or break this team come NCAAs. A banged up BK has struggled and 141 has been a mess. 157 is all upstairs with JW imo. Some confidence could go a long ways with him. Also, Gabe had a tough off season. Next year he will make a solid 174, but PK absolutely earned the spot this year long before the SS.

Well, I'm in a foul mood after watching that steaming pile of a tournament. But here are my thoughts with as few curse words as possible.

125: Looking forward to DeLuca.

141: There should be a Lemon Law for NIL guys that underperform as badly as Bailey. He's like a car you drive off the lot and 10 miles down the road the transmission falls out. As for Peterson, he's competent, but not slick, strong, or tough enough to ever compete at NCAAs.

149-157: Not impressed with Voinovich brothers. See Peterson, above. Williams needed the matches and wrestled decent--2 top-20-ish wins, but didn't dominate. He gets a "Pass."

174: Arnold blew it. Can't settle for coin-flip matches with mid-AAs. That was an R12 match. Didn't he just say how much he blew it at NCCAs? He just went out and wrestled the same way. Stop talking if you don't mean it. On the positive side, he showed he is in good shape at 174, didn't tire. He just has to step on the gas--don't stop at R12, like too many other Iowa guys in recent history. Set your sights at being the 174 CHAMP next year. If he wrestled with that mindset he would've won handily.

197: Mixed reviews on Ludington. Generally wrestled well, shows potential on his feet. BUT he's got to improve A LOT if he's going to be the man at 197 for the next 4 years. This is not the '80s where you've got 2-3 years to ease into AA range. This is the 2020s, where guys are contenders right out of high school. Right now Ludington is looking like a #30-ranked guy. He's gotta believe he can be an NCAA champ NOW and wrestle with that mindset. Or he's gonna spend 4 years in the lineup and end up a 1X AA. We can't afford that. We need him to be a finalist next year, not an R12. In any case, he needed matches and he got them.

Overall, lots of mediocre wrestling in a mostly-empty arena. National Duals were great. Lots of terrific wrestling and top-notch early-season competition. Keep that on the schedule, and kill the Soldier Salute, which no longer serves a purpose. But don't host a party and then not show up. That just burns bridges, which seems to be our forte.

I'm gonna go wrestle with my kid and try to erase Soldier Salute from my memory.

I thought Ludington looked pretty good for the most part. The Wyoming kid (2025 AA, ranked 6th) is a beast on top, plus the ref let him throw the leg in and beat up Ludington with power half forever with no stalemate calls. He is also a bit undersized as a true freshman 197 pounder - he weighed in under 195, so he must not be cutting much. He needs to put on some more muscle before next season and grow into the 197 pound weight class.
Lundington was a small 190 last year and his ideal weight is 184 but with Ferrari he has no choice but to build up to 197. He needs a full summer in the gym and fill out more , he has the talent but hes walking around 195 soaking wet wrestling guys cutting from 230.. Harris the Oklahoma kid he beat in QF was the NJ state champ at 215 last year and was cutting a lot just to make that while Lunington didnt even cut at all to make 190. He needs to be lifting with the offensive line this summer
