If a drafted recruit chooses to come to school, assistant him in getting financial aid. When his college career is over, private funds can be utilized to make the loan disappear. No agreement will be made with the player at any time, and it will never be discussed by anyone. It won't need to be once balances start getting paid. As soon as Mangum signs his contract, someone can cut him a check for his student loan. And Small, Skelton, etc...

Problem solved.

Easier solution. Non-baseball scholarships count as if they were baseball scholarships, same as with football and basketball. The real problem is the NCAA doesn't even think there's a problem.

I understand the frustration of the scholarship disadvantage but was it a big deal while we beat them 2 of 3 last year. I get and totally agree with the frustration but in all sports this goes on and in this sport we are 1 win away from back to back minimum Top 4 finishes.
We lost didn’t play great but I’m happy with our lineup against theirs. This is our team and I think this ain’t the time to discuss our scholarship limitations which translates to the fact we don’t feel these guys deserve to be in our uniforms.

Yes, it absolutely was. Without it, they wouldn't have made it to a super regional to begin with.

I don't think anybody is saying we aren't happy with or players or they don't deserve to wear our uniforms. Some are simply pointing out Vandy has an unfair advantage that allows them to stockpile more elite talent. IF they miss on a couple of elite pitchers, they have more on campus. If we miss on a couple, we are in trouble in the SEC West.

I understand and get that but to ***** now is sad. So we are gonna complain after a loss. Not a day after, or the end of the season we are gonna bring it up now. Reread your post. You just crapped on several players who have busted their *** for this school. This is not time for this discussion. We are still playing

Look I apologize and agree to an extent but we whipped their *** and it wasn’t a big topic. I just think now is not the time to bring this up. It’s been a discussion for years but why bring it up after 1 loss. I’m just proud with who we have because they wanted to be here.
Sorry if I was bitching

Or get a fund together that pays off the student loan debt of baseball players after they graduate/leave. There will be no written guarantee (the fund could quit paying at anytime) so there would be no impermissible benefits. Essentially, certain players would get some kind of attaboy from a member of the fund and this would signal that they will have their debt paid off by the fund. No payments would be made until they have used up their eligibility.

Yes, players would be going in on a lot of faith, but if the fund were in good financial shape they wouldn't have to worry.

Mississippi State seems to be doing just fine in baseball with the current scholarship landscape.

Its an issue but if we can simply find stability we will be fine. Look at the good programs in the conference and how long their coaches have been there. And look at how long some of them have had assistants in some spots. Dan mcdonnell has had the same pitching coach his entire time at Louisville. Bianco has had his lead recruiter for a decade. That kind of stuff is big

We havent had a coach stay more than 8 years since the 1997 and he wasnt even trying

Totally agree. It’s sour grapes. Advantage or not, we’ve assembled a roster at least comparable to theirs. There is not some huge chasm between their talent and ours. We have two MLB first round picks in our starting rotation, the all time SEC hits leader (and Top 5 round pick), guys like Tanner Allen and Foscue who will be high picks when they are juniors, Colby White who was a 6th rounder, etc. Additionally, in 2013 we had what was probably the most talented college baseball team of the past 10-15 years with something like 8 guys that made the show. Regardless of what advantage they have, we have and will continue to get top end talent ourselves.

We didn’t play well enough to beat them yesterday. Plain and simple. Making the argument about scholarships or anything else is pointless.

The bigger picture is the student athletes in a MAJOR sport are not equally compensated in scholarship opportunities because the rules of the NCAA limits it. Tom Mars needs a class action lawsuit against the NCAA to represent these kids. At this point, there needs to be a good argument made by the NCAA as to why there aren’t 35. Same for women’s softball. (There isn’t one)

Rick Cleveland has a great article:
https://www.djournal.com/sports/ric...cle_314a545d-3d81-5cf3-a4f9-9d1af7285d95.html
From Ricks’s article:

”College football which requires 11 players on the field at a time, gets 85 scholarships. College basketball, which requires five players on the court at a time, gets 13 scholarships. There are 10 players, counting the DH, in a baseball lineup. Again, do the math.Lacrosse teams are allowed 12.6 scholarships. Ice hockey teams get 18 scholarships. Women’s equestrian gets 15, and somebody has to pay for the horses. Women’s rugby gets 12. Softball gets 12. Wresting gets 9.9.

Baseball – considering how big it has become – gets screwed.”

Softball only getting 12 sounds just about as bad as 11.7 for baseball. Only difference is softball doesn't require nearly as many pitchers.

Absolutely was a big deal. They were a significantly more talented team that we were last year but luckily baseball is a game that, in a 3 game series, the more talented team doesn't always win. But over time they will beat you much more than you will beat them.

Somewhat, but then baseball has about 10 more players on the roster. That pie gets cut up more in baseball.

Stop wasting our money on giving scholarships to these smart kids! Save that money and base all academia scholarships on your 40 time and bench press.
