Some BR starters arrived well after kick-off at LA. Huh?

During the BR/ LA telecast Saturday afternoon, Kenny McMumblemouth reported that some Brother Rice starters didn't arrive at Loyola Academy until their team was already down by two touchdown (mid 1Q) -- because they had been taking the ACT test.

What?

The ACT is only offered three times during the fall semester. Don't the CCL schedule makers check for conflicts like this? Why schedule LA for a home game (that is, a day game) today?

I'm also wondering how the stress of knowing they'd be late for the game affect their test performance? Plus, did the Rice kids have sufficient time to stretch and warm up?

September ACT is usually the last chance test for seniors. Not many take it. So you think there should be no Saturday games? How does a Friday night game help? Kids will miss out last minute studying.

Football should not be priority #1, hats off to kids taking the ACT and missing part/all of a game to try to improve their chance at attending a college of their choice.

I fully agree that academics are priority number one. My point was that the schedule could have been written so that a day game wasn't played on this Saturday. Loyola could easily have been on the road Friday night.

Start the game at 3. It is not getting dark that early yet. During the spring track meets and baseball games get scheudeled for later in afternoon at most places for the April test.

How about just take the test up north. You can take it anywhere.

I think the announcers mentioned that the kids in question took the test at Loyola. I recall the announcers talking about this well after the 1st quarter began. Think the score was 14-0 at that point. Maybe we are talking close to 2:00 p.m. IF those BR players took the test at Loyola, I don't get why they were as late as they were to get in the game that started at 1:30. The test starts at 8 and it ends around 12:15 or 12:30. If you elect to take the writing part of the exam, the test ends at around 1:00. How long does it take for those kids to leave the test, suit up and walk over to the BR sideline?

Clearly BR would have won had they had their full slate of student athletes on the field. They should not be held in disfavor just because they value scholarship more than their opponent.

Also, the trip up to Loyola is much, much further than the trip for Loyola going down to BR.

And it was very sunny. And breezy. And Jimmy's shoelace broke.
