First- Yes Sims went off on us for 40 points. But he is a high scorer
and a couple of those shots were absurd. But the real actual good stat
is that he shot ONLY 35% BOTH FROM BEHIND THE ARC AND OVERALL. 35%,
thats it. I would take that every time. Why wouldnt we want 46% of
their shots as a team to go in only 35% of the time? Yep, he hung 40 on
us. And it took almost half the team's shots to do so while not even
shooting a high percentage.
As a team, ASU shot 35%. Thats it.
Ravern Johnson had another good offensive night. 19 points on 6-13 shooting while 3-6 from deep.
Kodi had his 2nd DOUBLE DOUBLE in a row!! KODI!! The guy is rebounding
and playing down low. That baseline spin for a dunk was awesome to
see! He ended with 26 points on 8-12 shooting and 3-4 from deep. WITH
10 REBOUNDS! He even managed to not charge into the lane like a drunken
bull...thats just icing on the cake.
Riley Benock decided to actually shoot the ball. He went 3-7. This
deserves caps- THAT IS THE MOST SHOTS HE HAS TAKEN IN A GAME...EVER. He
put up 6 in a game back in December of '08 which was his old high. Its
great to have a SG that, you know, shoots! Not only that, but he had a
CLUTCH 3ptr in the final minutes of the game.
Tranny had 7 assists and only 1 turnover.
Lewis has an offensive game. Yeah he hasnt put it together yet and itll
be another year at least till its near consistent, but he had some
great plays that he just wasnt able to finish on. I actually dont think
his is a wasted scholarship. Even with not getting everything he
should have, he still had 6 points and 5 boards in 16 minutes. That
isnt bad.
Byant is going to be a solid player for us this season and next. He is a
consistent FT shooter, is quick, has solid lateral mobility and hops,
and didnt panic thru the game.
Sure there were some bad parts. We kept losing Sims even though
everyone in the gym knew they were trying to get the ball to him. And
Ravern sucked at FTs in key stretches. Bailey couldnt make
anything(except oddly enough, he hit his FTs) and it would be difficult
to slip a piece of paper under his feet when he jumps. Tranny is
terrible, still, at finishing in the lane.
There were some really good things that happened in the game, regardless
of the slim victory. Ill take a player going for 40 every night if
