I am very, very happy that we won this game and series and our pitching was outstanding again. But we definitely got outplayed today and we definitely looked even worse batting than I've seen. Had the gift of the first inning not happened, we would have almost definitely lost this game and everyone on here would be bitching hard. Our failure to hit a 3-1 fastball passed the infield and our love for watching strike three (Renfroe) is really aggravating.<div>
</div><div>However, if we can get the hitting at least a little turned around then I will feel much, much better. I just hope that these players understand how poorly they are hitting.</div>

I wouldn't say "we definitely" got out played. They scored 7 runs this weekend, we scored 10. We might have sucked at the plate but I wouldn't consider them hitting much better, 7 runs is just as bad as our getting 12 hits.

What should be said is we definitely pitched better!

On days we only get two hits. God forbid we somehow start hitting bc we could make a serious run in the postseason.

A win is a win. I'll take it anyday over a loss espically over the bears. Who cares how you win, they all count the same in the record book.

But this isn't the time to ***** about that. Great pitching and bad hitting can win games, and it just won another series this weekend.

when we had a mental ****. My point is we pitched well enough to give up 5 earned runs over an entire weekend to the hottest hitting team in the league. All our runs today was completely and totally on the pitcher. <div>
</div><div>ETA: From the stats this weekend: Graveman gave up 4 runs yesterday, 3 earned. Routt gave up 2 runs yesterday, 0 earned. 5 earned runs the entire weekend. </div><div>
</div><div>ETA2: No problem, Pat. </div>

Cohen is figuring out how to get it done. Good job by him finding a way to win.

any time you can figure out how to win on TWO hits against a team known for its hitting. However you do it is fine by me; honestly, that means you're thinking.<div>
</div><div>I like what it says about our pitching, too. They're tough mentally, and they have the talent to get the job done. They're resilient. And, they're perfectionists and take responsibility.</div><div>
</div><div>Cohen (or Thompson, or whomever) picking Pollorena today is a good sign to me that they know our staff and know when it's appropriate to bring them in or not. I had a feeling for some reason a few weeks ago that they were bringing him along to be our Sunday starter. But they took their time with him and made sure it was a good spot for him. And that's the perfect time for him, he seems like he enjoys that type of game and breeds on it. Our staff being so deep gave us that luxury. The only complaint I have with them on pitching this year was making Reed the Sunday starter when he wasn't ready for that. I think that could have been from some outside pressure, though.</div><div>
</div><div>Now we have a whole week to rest/heal up, and figure out what to do on hitting. Good time to evaluate some guys in practice that, God knows, might have to come in and put in significant time if we get any more banged up. Think we need to re-iterate that when you're up there to swing, you're looking for holes more than the fence. Or, we should be considering very few of them have the power to be jacking homers right and left.</div><div>
</div><div>Dunno- we obviously have some things to fix, but not sure how you can not be happy with playing to win with what we can do. I'd much rather say that than have to say what OM has to say: they lost a series to a team that hit .143 on them for the weekend and could not figure out how to put the pieces together to take it.</div>

...was from somewhere other than Mississippi. They were from Virginia, Texas, California, Texas, Florida, Louisiana, with the closest being from Memphis. Just like in football, where they get most of their players from out of state, playing Mississippi State just doesn't mean as much to them, but it means a lot to our guys. Yes, we have some out of state baseball players, but not an entire starting lineup!
