Auburn's top recruiter and WR coach just left his alma mater for the same position at LSU today. AU fans are so mad at Gus they want him gone now, but will settle for after the season. Many of their fans number 1 choice to replace Gus is none other than Bobby Petrino. That would suck for us, because he will have some serious weapons to use at Auburn, but him leaving would be hilarious for you UK fans and getting to listen to how the next coach is much better.

Why would he leave the best talent in America to coach the talent at Auburn? And what about the huge buyout that would keep him home for years?

But then the two programs do have similar moral standards.

Yep they do that for sure. AU doesn't have any problems raising money to buy players, so they can probably come up with the buyout too. I wonder if ole Bobby has any morality clause in his contract that would be a reason to fire him. After thinking about that for a second was a silly question considering where he coaches, if anything he would have to abandon any ethics he had to be hired there, easy for him though, he had none.

That buyout though. I think ul is stuck with Bob for better or worse. But it would be comedy to hear the people in ul land have to back track on Bob being anything other than what he's always been.

I'd rather have Petrino at Louisville than Jeff Brohm. Petrino 2.0 is nothing like the 1st go around or his time at Arkansas. He's so medicated, he no longer even knows when to call a timeout, which is crazy cause he was once one of the best football minds in the game.

You know Steeler the mod from the looserville board reads this site. He likes you a lot but he is in the banning mood (first hand knowledge lol).

Anyway, the truth does hurt even for a fan like Steeler. But he is a chicken it.

Someone from there already banned me, may have been him because of my opinion of Grantham. My opinion of Grantham hasnt changed, they are glad they got him and so are we, saved us a bunch of cash from the firing he was about to get. For the record I think Petrino is one of the top offensive minds in college football, I think morally he might be one of the worst, but honestly he isn't being paid to be a choir boy he is being paid to win games. If they are ok with his past transgressions fine with them, if a hot young blonde half my age came on to me like she did him my morals would be put to the test, ahh hell I would have nailed her too. The difference is I am not married at the moment.

If Tom Jurich leaves its in Bobbys contract his buyout gets cut in half immediately the first year and by another third the next year. Besides programs like Auburn don't care about buy outs. They spend more on a recruit than that. That said just because some fans want Bobby I doubt the SEC or the University would welcome him back.

You are kidding about the university aren't you, they came very close to losing their accreditation because of independent studies for the football players, they had players graduate who couldn't read at a 5th grade level. Now I don't know about the SEC, Arky wanted to keep him but you can bet if AU thinks he can win games they don't care one bit about his history of unethical and immoral behavior, they are the poster child. They tried to hire him in the middle of the night but word leaked out they met at some dark landing strip. AU is sleazy, its all they know.

On a more serious note Grump, why is AU to the point of dumping Gus? Hasn't won enough I assume and the fact that Bama and Nick is dominating? I use to live in Atlanta and actually had season tickets at UGA even tho' I'm a UK alum and fan, but really enjoyed the UGA football experience. Plus could watch the Cats every other year. So, I'm familiar with how fervent SEC fans are in the Deep South about football. Knew a ton of people in Alabama (ex--wife was from there and many of her family were Bama boosters) and football is a 365 day topic of discussion.

Despite Petrino's worthless moral fiber, he knows football better than most and I'm sure he would be thinking redemption is Auburn came calling. But I think the league and its AD's might collude to keep him out in some way. He's embarrassed the SEC enough already. Perhaps Auburn has enough political capital to hire him anyway.

NeckbraceTrino 2.0 is not as good as the first time around. Even the Tard looserville fans will admit to that. Yes, he has our number (for now) but he is not the same risk taking aggressive coach he use to be.

Guess he is a half of what he use to be. But, that's to be expected after your caught having an affair and your still with your wife. Lol

I think there are a few reasons. The most glaring,to me anyway, is his offense has to have an elite athlete at qb. Gus hasn't developed any other type qb, in fact his qbs other than Cam and Marshall have been turnover machines. This weekend Damian Craig, a long time AU assistant, and AU grad, left AU for the same position at LSU a division rival. Muschamp was leaving to become Smart's DC but got the USC job instead and brought Tavares Robinson and Lance Thompson with him. Plus the hiring of Kevin Steele as DC wasn't taken very well. So I guess it boils down to not developing talent and not being able to keep a coaching staff together, all liked more than Gus. I don't think he is a very good coach, hate to see him leave, the year they played FSU for the national championship they should have lost 4 game, they won 3 on fluke plays going their way.

Unless they win 9 games, I think Gus is gone. You'd have to think Jay Jacobs will be gone too, right? I think the Bruce Pearl hire was a good one, but he will have whiffed on his last 2 football hires.

It would be a whiff based on the expectations of their fan base. Sure, the first year was great, but the way they collapsed down the stretch in 14, and a 7-6 record in 15 has many of their fans calling for Gus' head.

Rammer I don't know if 9 would save him 10 wasn't enough for Richt, 2 of them would have to be you and us. I don't know what we are going to be next fall, probably fairly good on D but with a true frosh at QB and not sure about Chubb so offense will likely struggle. But I don't see them beating Bama, unless Gus finds another Cam somewhere, he is totally clueless when it comes to teaching a qb to run through a progression. His guys make one read and throw it. A new defensive staff except Garner who has been underdeveloping DL for 20 years, 14 of them for us.

How many you think he wins, I don't know who he has from the East other than us, but I don't see them beating LSU, OM or Bama, and Arky could be a handful for them. I don't know if A&M even has a qb left on campus so I think they beat them and probably State

Hence the problem with going to a program that has an unhealthy occupation with other programs. When a title or a runner up can't secure your job, just what the hell can? Insane expectations and keeping up with the joneses will always keep auburn down. CBP would be smart to stay at Lou - all you gotta do is win the ACC.

CBP has never give any indication he was smart at anything other than running an offense. Look at his track record, while at Louisville he met with the AU AD and their, at the time, money man in the middle of the night at a secluded airport while AU had a head coach. He left Lousiville for the Falcons where he was hated by everyone in the organization because he wouldn't even speak to the players if they passed each other in the hall. He left the Falcons and no one knew it until they were able to get in his office and find his resignation letter on his desk. We all know how he left Arkansas, spent a year at WKU and then full circle back to Louisville. So he has failed the ethics and morals test with flying colors and there is nothing other than being a good coach that would make any university want him representing them.

The Craig situation is bigger than most think. Saw some post on it. One guy said he'd not be upset if Craig banged his wife, figured he owed it to the guy for all he's done for Auburn. Said gus treated Craig bad and that alone deserves firing. Really wasn't any Auburn fans disagreeing with his take either.

Well if winning the ACC is his criteria for staying at Transfer U (and it might be, considering your fan base) then he should go ahead and make the jump now.

sigh, like a replay of the 2000's. why some on here think it actually matters or is important to coaches like Petrino to make the playoffs (or back then to make a BCS bowl) is beyond me.

"Oh Bobby will never leave UL for an SEC program, do you know how easy it is to be in a BCS bowl at UL compared to the SEC?!?!" Repeated over & over again 2003-2007. Instead he skipped right to the hardest task of all, taking an NFL franchise to a Super Bowl. Well that only lasted 12 games of course, then he landed where he has always wanted to be and still wishes to be, coaching SEC football.

If he can land a better job than UL he will for damn sure do it, even the most optimistic rainbows and gumdrops UL fan knows he ain't staying there until retirement coaching happy controversy-free football. He will end badly, because he always ends badly one way or another. Only variable is when, & how much damage he causes. and ain't 1000 sessions of daughter caddying changing that leopard's spots.

Or:

By Dec Pitino has resigned in disgrace. Your girls basketball coach has fled to UT. UK finally manages to put enough football plays together to end an embarrassing 5 year losing streak to UL and giving even the most dense UL fans a hint of what's coming down the pike. Auburn, having witnessed UL's collapse vs UK, decides to "go in another direction" to find Malzahn's replacement. Jeff Brohm, not having a 6th year QB to ride any longer, is passed over by P5 schools....AGAIN. How much joy will be on this board under that scenario?

Your program has had some experience firing successful coaches, Curry took a GT team that was 1-9-1 and 1-10 his first two years to a bowl game four years later, and took Bama from 7 wins his first year to 9 and 10 wins before being run off. His last year he had a 10-1 regular season record before losing to Miami in a bowl game, and I think the U was a real power then. IIRC he had TWO COY conference awards and one of the NCOTY awards.

His problem was his regular season loss was to Auburn, and he couldn't beat them, BUT Auburn had a very good program those years.

His career coaching record:

What I find amazing about Curry is that BOTH GT and Bama won a NC three years after he left, using the senior class he recruited (plus redshirts and injured he recruited) while he started at UK with a 4-7 record and left with a 4-7 record. But despite denials UK was a "basketball school" only, support wise (not fan wise) and stayed that way support wise until the fan strike AND the availability of huge sums made available from the success of football nad the SEC..

I guess when your a program like Auburn you can covet another P5 team's head coach as an assistant for yours. I don't see it myself, but who ever knows what a guy like Petrino might do. I do agree, the man is not staying at UL for a long time.

Speaking of your Dawgs I was looking in recent weeks at rankings of the top public universities of this nation. Georgia was 24th. Georgia Tech of course was a bit higher. Not bad, and something you Georgia fans, and residents can be proud of. UK's in something like the top 60. CSU, my other school is as well, but 24th is impressive. And of ex-Georgia coaches we Ram fans are hoping for a big year coming up from Bobo.

I could have gone to grad school at Tech, I was accepted, but I wanted to go where I've stayed, the Rocky Mountain West. And of ex-Georgia coaches we Ram fans are hoping for a big year coming up from Bobo.

Bobo is a good guy, his offenses at UGA put up some big numbers late. But he could make some of the worst calls at times you could ever see. His last year we are down by 3 1st and goal on the 4. Keep in mind we had Todd Gurley and Nick Chubb as RBs, we run a naked bootleg, get called for intentional grounding and neither of the backs get a touch, we lose by 3. They would have had to stop me 4 times with those backs. But I hope the best for him and he does well for CSU.

The Hope scholarship, funded by the lottery, has enabled many more kids in Georgia to go to college that couldn't pre Hope. Kids have to have a medium B average in HS, maybe 3.5 gpa, which increased applications by the 1000's and allowed UGA to be much more selective. They would have doubled over laughing at my SAT score from 1971 if it were on an application today, but was welcomed with open arms back then. Sadly my son scored 300 points higher than me as a 7th grader, lol

Well, you're a man who is adept at envisioning worst case scenarios! One would imagine that you have a great deal of recent practice, considering the hammer hanging over the Louisville athletic program at this point in time. Let's just say that, even in your gloom and doom scenario- there will be less angst than there is currently is, on and around, Floyd Street.

With that said, I am not too concerned about your scenario coming to pass. We could very lose to Louisville, but it may be a situation where a win would not have meant a bowl anyway; or, a situation where not even the loss would prevent it. Moreover, absent an absolute collapse, I WANT to have Mitch standing behind Stoops at that point. But I am not really that worried about Honest Bob getting the Auburn job. Louisville was the only power Five school to give that guy a sniff two plus years ago, and I can't envision that changing anytime soon . Too high of a buyout, too much baggage, not enough success in his second go-round, too many other viable options for Auburn- all reasons for Auburn to look elsewhere. And, if it does happen, and if UofL hires Brohm? The chances of a successful coach at a midmajor succeeding at a higher level is a crapshoot. As I recall, Steve Kragthorpe looked pretty good coming from Tulsa.
