When it comes to recruiting, you’re never ever going to get it completely right. You can read, listen, and understand everything about kids and you’re gonna look like a goof when it comes to some kids.

Me? I’ve done that, and you have to live with it if you’re going to make picks in a place like the 247 Crystal Ball. Last year I was 70% picking where kids were going to sign. That’s pretty decent, I think. But, this year I’m down due to both not picking that many spots and several kids not making picks yet.

But, shooters shoot, right? So, I looked at one of the biggest Nebraska targets on the board in WR Joseph Lewis. Lewis has done the following:

  • Visited Nebraska three times, twice on his own dime.
  • Ranked Nebraska a “9.5” out of 10 on his visit, according to his blog.
  • Without saying much, has made a point in stating that his relationship with QB verbal Tristan Gebbia and WR coach Keith Williams has meant to his recruitment to Nebraska
So, what’s holding back the decision? Well, Lewis is going to wait till the Army All-American Game to make a pick at the earliest. But, seeing what Adam Gorney’s said about Lewis lately on Rivals (not going to give it all away), I’m gonna shoot my shot.

I’ve put in my Crystal Ball for Joseph Lewis to go to Nebraska.
I may be wrong, but worst-case scenario is that I’m wrong. And, honestly, why not Lewis to Nebraska? They’re going to have for him what he wants. That is:

  • A position coach that has a true relationship with him.
  • Immediate playing time possibilites, with Jordan Westerkamp, Alonzo Moore and Brandon Reilly leaving the program.
  • A quarterback in either Tanner Lee, Patrick O’Brien or Tristan Gebbia that will be more consistent in throwing the football.
Adding it up, it makes sense right now, at this moment, to make that forecast. It could change, of course, but right now there’s too much smoke without it being fire.

  • As stated above with Joseph Lewis, there’s a need for players to step up and be ready to go to replace at the very least three guys. This could be a fallback plan for Lewis, Jamire Calvin or Isaiah Hodgins. However, there’s only so many you can take. Brown seems like a fallback plan, but maybe there’s something we don’t know.
    • I would still put the money that Damion Daniels is the next Nebraska verbal. Daniels is scheduled to OV at Iowa next weekend. However it will be interesting to see what happens to both of Daniels team mates, Chevin Calloway and Eno Benjamin. If they bolt from Iowa, I doubt that Daniels is going to be much vested in this visit.

Don't people think Calloway and Daniels are a package deal? Wouldn't hate to accept that package right about now.

Lewis is a 5 star he won't announce until his All American game or signing day.

Nebraska Coaches knew about this beforehand. He had been totally open with the coaches when he committed to them about schools he might be visiting. Handled it very professionally, quite impressive.

Honestly I don't know why some of these kids wouldn't take all 5 of their Official Visits. How great would it be to see games from the sidelines at schools like Nebraska, Michigan, Alabama, Ohio St, Wisconsin, Clemson, Florida St........ Not every recruit has affluent parents so these paid trips can be a great way to see more of the country, plus see some great football atmospheres.

Doesn't exactly sound like it. Chevin has been quoted as saying he doesn't know what Damion is thinking. He definitely visited Nebraska because of Daniels, so there is that.
Word is Chevin's parents are really pushing him to stay closer to home.

Also, Daniels isn't visiting Iowa this weekend. They don't know if he is going to be able to visit but his dad said he wants to commit by December 1. I did notice Daniels has been retweeting a lot of Colorado stuff.

I saw both play last week in a Dallas private school league game loss. Their Bishop Dunne team had no business losing to Parish Episcopal, Dunne's second league loss of the year.
They "looked" the deal, but play on a team that "looks" the part but losses to lesser teams.
Would love both in Red, but their high school team is severely under performing

I know Calloways stats aren't all that impressive. One pick I believe. I haven't seen Daniels' senior tape but his junior film blew me away. Whoever gets him is gonna be very happy.

I almost get the impression that the visit will pay for the trip to the Lions game...

Arizona’s top-rated commit is Greg Johnson, the guy visiting Nebraska this weekend. At 5-foot-10 and 185 pounds, Johnson had been slated as a defensive back at Arizona, Biggins said, but has recently opened his mind to playing running back at the next level.

He’s also the teammate and best friend of Nebraska’s top wideout target, five-star Joseph Lewis. That Johnson is even making the trip to Nebraska, Biggins said, bodes well for NU’s standing with Lewis.

“Obviously, Joseph is in his ear and he’s talking it up,” Biggins said. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Lewis, a faster version of former Husker and current Jets receiver Quincy Enunwa if you want a comparison, is on a “three-year plan,” Biggins said. That’s three years in college before he heads to the NFL.

“He feels like, at Nebraska, he can come in there, be a freshman All-American, have a big sophomore season, and then leave after his junior year,” Biggins said. “That’s the three-year plan. He wants to play early and play for a coach he thinks can develop him — and he likes the receivers coach (Keith Williams) quite a bit. They’ve done a really good job of selling Lewis on some of the past guys Riley has had at Oregon State.”

Lewis would also be a fit for Nebraska, Biggins said, because “he’s not a real party kid” and “doesn’t need to stay close to home.” http://www.omaha.com/huskers/footba...cle_e7042f0a-1d05-5a37-a6e3-1f80160d2232.html

I'd love Lewis to commit to NU but it ain't going to happen. Recruiting is a dirty business and our staff doesn't go low like others.

Rumor is, he takes visits to us an others, to drive up his price on the real legitimate contender, mainly U$C. I believe someone posted this much the night coach dub got hit with a DUI. Someone on here had talked to coach dub that night at the bar, and when they brought up Lewis, coach dub said their was zero chance he'd be in Lincoln. That the kid had people who were having him take visits so so that it'd make the true contenders worried.

I think it was long ago decided that what Keith Williams said(if that's what he said) at that time didn't really reflect what was going on. He was either joking or just saying that for some reason. The interest from him in us is real. Nobody visits Nebraska from California twice on their own dime if the interest isn't real.

Not only that, but he's bringing a teammate who is already committed to Arizona state this weekend. Why do that if you're playing the game? I know he could be bringing his pal along for some fun, but many are predicting he comes here, even people more knowledgeable than the fans on this board. :)

Read about his 3 year plan (after 3 years he's going pro) and he believes nebraskas system and coaches give him a great opportunity in that time frame.

It also makes no sense for us to continue to put on the full court press to get him if that's how Williams really felt. So I for one need to see some more compelling evidence that Lewis doesn't have genuine interest in us.

I don't know if this guy knows what he's talking about. I don't know how fast Lewis is but Enunwa could really run!

Thats what I am saying. Enunwas speed was criminally under uterlized by Beck. The guy runs a legit 4.45, people thought he was 4.6 range because we kept the receivers blocking and underneath routes.
