Something I haven't seen mentioned.....the clock operator

First, I am not saying this had any effect on the outcome of the game, but either the clock operator was the single worst operator I've ever seen or I am completely missing something.

There were at least half a dozen times today where they either didn't start or didn't stop the clock.

A couple of examples...

With 9:35 left in the 4th Jefferson ran out of bounds after about a 15 yard run. The clock runs until 9:04 and then stops. About two seconds later LSU snaps the ball. 31 seconds ran off the clock. Jefferson had run out of bounds essentially on his own. The refs didn't say anything, the commentators didn't say anything.

Later in the 4th LSU calls a timeout. The clock runs for another 12 seconds.

This isn't a case of 2 or 3 seconds. In one case it was over half a minute.

Did anyone else notice this?

apparantly there were issues with the TV clock - did not notice anything at the game.

I noticed several times that the clock was not running when it should've been. And several times it was running when it shouldn't have been.

Edited after seeing the above post to add: I was wondering whether it was just the TV clock. Hopefully it was.

I backed it up on the ole DVR to make sure I wasn't losing my mind. I guess that's the simplest explanation for what I saw, that the TV clock was messed up.

not sure how the clock on tv ties in to the game clock, but like you said, it would run past when the play was over....incompletion, out of bounds, etc.

I did catch the announcer a couple of times near the end give the time and it was several seconds off the tv time. Then the tv time would roll down to the time the announcer gave.

I don't think it was anything being done wrong or the clock being wrong.

Remember also, the clock operators are officials just as those on the field, so no hanky panky or home cooking. Unless you're playing in Baton Rouge and they provide a few adult beverages to the clock operators and buddy up with them....

Just kidding on that last part.

they couldn't get the scoreboard clock and tv clock in sync. For the first two quarters, they would let the tv clock run and reset it back in time often. During the second half, they would wait for the scoreboard clock to stop and run the tv clock until it matched the scoreboard.
