Baseball is a strange sport.....Win big and then lose(sometimes big) but finally,it is all about
consistency which, alas, seems to not be for Husker baseball....Having been an early supporter
of Erstad, I'm reaching the conclusion that he's not a good college coach...

Osborne the legend. I agree. Coaching football that is. His hires as an AD... Not so much. Erstad needs to be fired. Period. Although Osborne did not hire Rhonda Revelle. she should have been fired 15 years ago as well. Why is she still there? We started to purge the program, now finish it. This is a corporation, treat it as such and move forward. Basketball and football? Check. Now get rid of the rest that haven't produced in years. It's not 1990 anymore. Moos needs to finish what he started. I am confident he will.

Yes. Both get paid a helluva lot more than 95 percent of the workforce. Erstad gets a quarter of a million a year. That is pretty good for the results he has produced in a weak baseball conference. If he wasn't an alum, he would have been fired 2 years ago. Nothing against the guy, but he has been in over his head since he was hired cheap and started the job as a "hobby" that turned into something beyond his talent and control.

Last year it was Frost. This year it is Hoiberg. Next year it will be ??? for baseball. The march to excellence needs to continue.

No matter the coach, you cannot be a national title contender in the B1G! Just the way it is. I have no opinion on DE but his hands are tied. IF my son was a D1 baseball player with MLB dreams. I would highly recommend he doesn’t play in the B1G. This coming from a lifetime husker fan.

You can be a heck of a lot better in the B1G than we are. We're not asking for national championships. We're not even asking for regular CWS appearances. We're asking for some consistent success, more than 1 conference title in 8 years(technically we still have a chance to win it this year, but it's not happening the way we're playing), and winning more than 1 game in the postseason. Making a Super Regional now and then would be nice too, but we haven't even come close to doing that since Erstad has been here. Other teams in the B1G can and do have that kind of success, and we could too if we just hired the right coach.

Nobody I know is arguing that. Getting regularly killed in the Big 10 tournament, especially when it's held in Omaha, is a problem. Nebraska is the only Big 10 team that invests at all in baseball that folds like a cheap tent in May every year.

To make another point, this kind of an attitude really bugs me. Too many people who don't follow baseball are under the impression that it's all about being in the B1G that's the problem. It just isn't. That kind of an attitude would make sense-if we were dominating the B1G. But we aren't. We are getting beaten on a consistent basis by other teams in the B1G that don't invest nearly as much as we do in baseball. Other teams in the B1G are having more success in the postseason than we are. It's not like we've maxed out and have gone as far as we can go and are just being held back by our conference. There's an impression that the B1G is just a horribly awful baseball conference where you can't expect any success. Somebody actually asked recently if it was a one-bid league. That kind of ignorance is part of what holds us back. It hasn't been a one-bid league since we joined the conference, and most years gets multiple at-large bids. Nobody is going to say that the B1G is a great baseball conference, but it's better than some of the ignorant people who believe the "you can't be good in the B1G" mantra.

And btw, I don’t feel Erstad can coach as long as he feels like it. I think his seat will start warming up next year if nothing changes for the better

Is it easy to fire a Head Coach who gave One Million Dollars to the University before becoming Head Coach?

Only Moos knows the answer.

I still remember when he was the leading candidate to become the Dodgers Head Manager before becoming Nebraska's guy some time later.

Erstad was already the coach when he interviewed with the Dodgers. It was 2016. I prayed that he would get offered and would take the job. I actually think he would make a pretty good manager in the MLB. He wouldn’t have to worry about recruiting and teaching.

I don't follow baseball closely so maybe I'm just way oblivious. It seems crazy that a program that has zero CWS wins is wanting to fire a coach who is a school legend and a die hard Husker fan himself. A guy who may finish 3rd or 4th in the conference this season and is on the bubble for the national tournament.

There are 299 D1 college baseball teams. To make the tournament. You have to be top 30% of your sport or even better if it works like March Madness (conference champs auto bid). Northern teams rarely win big in college baseball. Why are we calling for our guy's job?

You cannot even be serious with this. We just got beat 10-2 by the 9th place team in the conference. Got outhit 16-3. Had as many errors as hits. All against a pitcher that came in with a 5+ ERA. Here's an idea-if you don't follow baseball closely, how about shutting up and talking about something you know about. You clearly are about as ignorant and uninformed as they come. School legend and die-hard Husker fan has NOTHING to do with job performance. Oh-by the way, we have 1 CWS win, You're so out of it regarding our baseball team you couldn't even get that right. As if not having any CWS wins would excuse the crap pile this team has turned into anyway.

Nebraska has now lost 4 of 7 series in the Big 10 with the only 3 series wins against the 11th, 12th and 13th place teams. Their conference record/standing is smoke and mirrors.

IMO, not only should we be a heck of a lot better, we should be absolutely killing it in the B1G which of course is not known for baseball excellence.

2-6 in the last 3 weekends(2-7 including the Creighton loss in between). Lost 2 of 3 at home to Illinois with the only win coming on a walkoff. Managed one extra-base hit the entire weekend. Been outscored this weekend 14-4 against a team that came into the weekend 11th in the conference. Outhit 23-9. Two pitchers that came in with 5+ ERAs dominated us and had their longest outings of the season. But nevermind all of that-Erstad is a HUSKER LEGEND! All is well!

Moos has said many times his ultimate measuring stick is how our teams do in conference. I think the 2017 regular season championship bought DE a little collateral. But, if we somehow miss the B1G tourney again or make it and flame out again, after missing it in 2018, I'm guessing DE's seat would be on fire for next season, legend or not.

Our late season collapse this year is inexplicable. Youth maybe in some cases? Erstad pushing the wrong buttons maybbe? I dunno but those first 2 butt kickings by Northwestern were inexcusable.
