What suddenly changed to make Lebby decide to play KT for the entire game?

Up until that day, he was happier losing ballgames and getting Shapen killed on the field than making an obvious move at QB, and all of a sudden during the very last game of the season, he benches Shapen for the entirety of the game? I just can’t believe that Lebby made that call on his own.

Someone forced his hand, but I’m just not sure who

He answered that question in the On3 article posted here. During the off week he figured out a mobile QB might be better when the OL is struggling.

Pure brilliance.

I think he also discovered you only get 4 downs to gain 10 yards. The great coaches scour the rulebook for little edges like that.

An off week to prepare.

Pressure from the fan base.

lesson here: when you're a leader, stick to your decisions. He made a change for the last game and he still has people coming at him.

And it only took 12 weeks to figure it out.

Wow, only took him 13 weeks from Aug 30. Wonder how long it will take to figure out the defensive line and defensive backs, another season?

He caved to pressure......further proving that he is not head coach material.

He made the decision to stick with Shapen.....which was the right one if he wanted to win games in 2025. And he also gave you the best chance to beat Ole Miss. I don't know if any of you noticed, but we only scored 19 points, one was a gimme and we really weren't in the game. If we'd started Taylor against Florida and Texas those would have been more lopsided.

But either way, if you do decide to go with Taylor, you should have done it after aTm. Next best time was before Mizzou. WORST time was as a daisy fresh rookie in the Egg Bowl, and guess what, we got blown out.

Lebby should see the writing on the wall and go be Sumrall's OC at Florida or something.

I would have stuck with Shapen starting and only playing the first series or two because he was great on scripted stuff. Felt like we always scored on our first possession. Then I would have gone Kamario 2nd and third quarters then feel out the 4th.

I suspect it was making sure it was clear to KT that he is the man now and in the future and probably ease any hurt feelings over not playing more up to this point.

I think it was fair to go either way. With a decent OL, I think Shapen is clearly the starter. With the line we have, neither had much fo a chance but KT at least has the ability to scramble. My only criticism is that making a change for the last game looks bad. If he was the right decision in game twelve, he was almost certainly the right decision in game 10. I doubt anything suddenly clicked for him in the lsat week or two. I suspect before free transfers, KT probably would have come off the bench.

I heard through the grapevine and I THINK I read it on here that Lebby even spent every Sunday with Hut and staff reviewing OM games and scheming. If that's true then it's more proof that he's just not that bright.

For all the hype about Taylor and everyone so happy he played. The fact is, we scored 19 points on a fairly average defense and he was 15-31, 173 yards no TD and an INT. He showed flashes of brilliance, but overall the offense was no better than it's been all season, maybe even a little worse.

As long as he can keep continuity on his coaching staff.......we should be good.************************************

Could just be that he realized the line was not going to give Shapen what he needed and that he needed to show KT some love to keep him around, or some combination thereof?

And once he's the full time starter that everybody starts game planning against, he's going to get the Nick Fitzgerald treatment where folks stack the line. Which is fine if you have a Mullen who knows how to use that. But Heavy Lenny doesn't.

Which goes to show you how coaching is a no-win situation. He plays Shapen and the fanbase riots. He plays KT, they say, "Well it took you long enough!" The only thing that remedies that is wins.
So, coaching is a no-win situation, unless you win. Sounds simple enough.

I think he listened to the fans, for good or bad. He's trying to get the fans on his side.

One thing I noticed about the egg bowl that I liked - we didn't have the silliness of special uniforms this time - no gold numbers, no gold shoes - just regular uniforms. I liked that. When we do that, it's almost like genuflecting to them.
