If you tell a lie enough times, you'll actually start to believe it yourself...

As with OM fans and NC's.

Look at the jersey numbers.

Are players such prima donnas these days they can't play without a certain number? In my day, just give me a damn jersey and get out the way.

Probably redshirt, greyshirt, or walkons...

They only have 100 number combos from 0-99 and most likely have more than 100 players out for practice.

I agree with the number thing it's crazy!! A lot of those guys are starters or are expected to contribute but one guy plays offense and one plays defense. I don't think they should let guys duplicate numbers especially when it could limit them to not be able to play both guys on special teams or in a pinch if a guy had to swap from o to d. I wasn't born when the National Championships were won but I would be willing to bet if y'all had the same claim to them you would take them as well.

I agree that they really don't matter at this point 100%! But they are still there. There probably aren't many people that really even remember the details without reading about them and the biggest thing isn't what happened even last year it's what you do today.

MSU actually could make that claim for at least 1941 with a better argument than all but one of Ole Miss' and equal to that one. The difference is we didn't. And we didn't subsequently build a mythical "flagship" elitist personality based on bogus claims to national championships. I only took one year of psychology, and it was way back in high school, but I think that delusions of grandeur may fit. Since you are too young to remember, and apparently unable to research facts for yourself, just know that the rebels never finished first in the AP and they never actually played for a NC or even a MNC.

I would have told the two stadium workers wearing neon to get the hell out my photo.

There are 100 available numbers and 115+ players on the roster. Even my 2 year old could have figured out that there would be duplicate numbers. Stop being a dubmass.

Which organization/publication named MSU national champs in '41? My "research" indicates there were multiple organizations/publications that named national champs back in the day but none ever chose MSU.

There really is no claim in 1941. We went 8-1-1 and finished 16th in the AP Poll. The claim is based on the idea that "Alabama claims it and we beat them so..." but claiming 1941 would be FAR more ridiculous than any that Ole Miss claims. Alabama's claim on 1941 is the most absurd in the entire country. We shouldn't become #2.

In 1940, though, we finished 10-0-1, and we could legitimately claim that one.

Don't get too worried. I was just making claims and I did NOT order a commemorative stadium wrap!

Seriously doubt the grey-shirts have much say in what number they get. I'm more impressed than anything that when the photographer asked them to sit in numerical order they all got it right (atleast in the front row).

To be sure, Richie Brown, Michael Hodges, and

Mike Mordecai are simply three guys who coincidently wear the number 39 for the mighty Maroons.
