I don't know if you are a music fan, and even if you are, it is not likely you know the band Queens of the Stone Age, but the lead singer is a great guy that started a band with Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters. The band is kind of a homage to heavy metal and is somewhat ironically named Eagles of Death Metal.

Grohl now only plays on the albums, but it looks like Eagles of Death Metal were playing a concert when the terrorists opened fire. No word yet on whether the musicians were hurt, but at least 42 dead now and another 60 are being held hostage at the venue.

Really blows...that lead singer is actually a very cool guy.

Josh Homme is a great guy...one of the best Bourdain episodes ever in the California desert

Josh Homme was not on the European tour. He is safe. Sorry for the minor freak out, but that guy is a blast and want him around even I don't like EoDM music. He was great on Grohl's HBO show as well.

Interesting you like one but not the other. Regardless, horrible situation. My brother-in-law has several relatives in Paris.

They play different styles of music. As you may know, EoDM play very hard metal and QotSA play spacey chunky stoner rock. I forget what Homme called it ....desert rock.

I saw EoDM open for The Strokes a while back, they're legit. I don't love them, I love The Strokes though.

Best rock band of the 21st century...The 2000's was a great time for rock n' roll with The White Stripes, The Hives, Jet, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, Interpol....those are just the popular bands. I could go underground on you guys but I don't think your ready for that.

Love The Strokes. Worst luck ever for a band. Debut album released on 9-11-2001. Saw them at the Appollo Theater in Harlem (NYC) that December. Lower Manhattan was still smoldering.

I don't know if you are a music fan

capn:

I am a passionate fan of classical music. I am not familiar with the band of which you speak, but I prefer Vivaldi, Bach, Brahms, Handel, Monteverdi, Corelli, Chopin, Georg Philipp Telemann, and a host of other Baroque school composers.

At this moment, Chopin's Funeral March comes to mind and it is my sincere aspiration to hear Chopin's work, uninterrupted, as backdrop music with an endless stream of coffins filled with the barbarians who perpetrated this attack.

I hope we killed Jihadi John today and I hope the Navy SEALs who passed the necessary justice on UBL buried him in pink women's panties.

If you guys are into finding new bands, here's a local one from Elmhurst, they went to York...they definitely didn't play football. They're good, not great but good. This is their debut on Letterman last year...at 1:38 things started getting weird, but it's rock n roll, anything goes. The end is good to, what Letterman and the band did was funny. Check it out if you're bored.

Agreed, but rest assured, there are plenty of audiophiles from all walks of life who love some very underground music. Including me.

Love these guys. Our CB at GW last year is cousins with the lead singer. Caught them at Lolla. My daughter is a freak for these guys and she is 14, which means I'm not allowed to like them. Fun band. You could call them Strokes spawn.

They started off covering Strokes songs and are big Strokes fans.

Strokes will be putting out an album in the next year. Here's a good site for Strokes news, thestrokesnews.com.

I can talk music all day.

Just woke up to the sobering thought that we hijacked your post @JCHILLTOPPERS

I feel sick to my stomach about the events last night and the events to come as the responses escalate. This is going to be a major sh*tstorm and we have a long and ugly fight ahead. The early event related to the cartoons could be waved off as a reaction to a group intentionally making a specific group pay for their work.

This one is very different. Sorry for the hijack and prayers for the families in Paris and those that serve that are about to deploy. My gut is this one will be severe.

Yeah, my bad. I always think to myself after seeing something like this, "It's only a matter of time before it happens in Chicago". It's a numbers game now, we're very very lucky that it hasn't happened to us, yet. Scary to think about.

I think about all the huge events Chicago has...Air and Water Show, Lollapalooza and any other sporting event. It's impossible to stop them all.
