If this has been posted, please delete. I just saw it for the first time.

This past election season, Public Policy Polling(a left leaning group), did some polling on different subjects in Mississippi. One poll concerned the state's athletic teams. Here was the result:

"Ole Miss has fallen to the third most popular sports team in the state.
Mississippi State topped the list with 36 percent favoring MSU, 27
percent for Southern Miss, and just 21 percent selecting Ole Miss. Going
2-10 with three straight Egg Bowl loses will do that for you. But here
is an interesting note from the crosstabs: Among those 18-29, Southern
Miss is the top choice favored by 41 percent of voters in that age
group."

deduct the Orgeron years and add the Vaught years and subtract the Sloan years and add the Brewer years and subtract the Cutcliffe years you will clearly see that they ARE THE Harvard of the South, the most popular school in OUR STATE and have still never lost a party.

I want to be the most SUCCESSFUL program in the conference or at least, in the division. Is that a lofty, difficult and nearly impossible goal given the current state of both our program and the rest of the division and conference, yep. But isn't that the purpose of a goal? To reach for something perfect and strive to get as close as possible because perfection (undefeated in every single sport in one seasons) is unattainable.

I don't give a squirt of rat **** about being the most popular program in Mississippi. The problem with you people is that you view "state dominance" as the target, the ultimate goal, the championship if you will. Good luck with that.

You run this poll in 08/09, and UM would be the most "popular" because you had back to back cotton bowls (first time in 50! yes, 50! years), and we were in the last leg of the Slytanic.

my guess is they are probably so popular because they are successful.

Alabama is not in the business of being "the best sports institution in the state." They are in the business of being "the best sports institution in the country."

Is it even possible for you to grasp that concept?

..the poll cites 52 percent (of Mississippians) support a constitutional amendment designating the outlawed mascot as the school’s (ole Miss) official mascot. Only 22 percent oppose the move.

52% of Mississippi actually believe your ******** mascot deserves the time of day.

That a level of popularity for your 19th century slave master that is as absurd as it is undeserving.

I think that 52% need to seriously reevaluate their priorities and grow the 17 up. Foam dolls are for children and pedophiles. Let's put away the blankies and binkies and focus on something important to grown ups, like... ohhh, I don't know. Winning?

So your point is we think more of beating you than beating Michigan, Florida, Georgia, or making a bowl in consecutive years.Or winning the games we are supposed to.
EVEN THOUGH we did all those things on top of kicking your conceited asses.

Here is the thing. It's the field of play that matters. Not the billboards, countdown clocks, trashtalk. That **** matters to your fanbase because more than kickingyour *** on the field, kicking your precious image hurts your feelings more.

It's what makes you dance in the locker room. It's what allows you to ***** slap your rival BEFORE, DURING and AFTER the game. IT is what allows you to laugh at recruiting rankings, white girls swallowing, and heisman trophy candidates coming in and laying 4-8 turds.

WE have it. You do not.

I was in Oxford in 2008 watching the 45-0 beat down...11 sacks...barely any offensive production at all from MSU...OM scoring at will. I said to myself that day, "that's the nail in the coffin for that program." and i was very serious about that. Ya'll made a good hire and have reeled off 3 in a row against us. The momentum can, and will, change quickly in a rivalry series. Remember when AU was beating Bama on a regular basis?

I was simply stating they are popular because of their success. It doesn't matter what level it's on. You said you'd rather be more successful than popular. I was just telling you that they go hand in hand. Manchester United is the most popular soccer team in the world. People who don't like soccer know who they are. Why? Because they are successful. No matter what level you are on, success = popularity.

if you aren't popular in your own state. Popularity does play a part in getting recruits, good recruits build better programs, and so on. Your response would have been a good headline, but lacks any substance. <div>
</div><div>Kinda like Fedora's retort about championships - great headline, but the reality is that yes, they won a championship but still went to an inferior bowl than every SEC team, including a 6-6 MSU team. </div>

Why would you bring that ***** sport into this? I would rather watch curling than soccer. Soccer is for people who can't make into other sports. It starts kids sports that say that are no winners in a game. We don't want to hurt their felling. ********, there are winners and losers learn it and you will do better in life.

I'm not sure what to say.

I agree that saying there are no winners and losers is stupid as ****, but don't act like it's a soccer only thing. Upward sports is the biggest ******** around and they play all sports. I played soccer on traveling teams, where winning did matter. I'm still not sure what that has to do with the original point of the thread though. And curling is awesome.
