I think it's worth mentioning that thetwo guys that missed free throws in that final minute against UK were Dee and Jarvis. You could tell they were exhausted, and Dee was cramping up.

If Twanny and Bailey aren't hurt, Dee and JV probably aren't as exhausted at the end of that game. I gotta think they would have been able to make 1 free throw. That would have us SEC Tourney champs and dancing.

Just thought I'd share..

We got to the final four with a team that wasn't deep. Hell that team had a walk on from Jackson Prep as the 1st off the bench. Yes it does matter but after 30 plus games you should be in shape enough to make a free throw.

Sure, not having Twanny, and Bailey to a degree, hurts, but if Rick weren't so damn inflexible about his substitution patterns, there are plenty of ways he could steal rest for JV & Bost. He's just too stubborn to do so, as it's easier for him to do the hockey line approach.

there was 12:30 on the clock (I believe), Ky took Cousins out, and we left Jarvis in. Its that kind of thing that you have to take advantage of....especially when we are playing zone. Its so much easier to just sit Riek and Lewis in the middle of a zone and not get hurt too badly for a minute. It can't be any worse than Turner having to guard Patterson man up.

ESPN used to clock the real time minutes Blake Griffin got when Capel would take him out at opportune times.

Edited to add: Dee and Jarvis played 40 minutes. Wall played 40, Bledsoe played 43, and Patterson played 38. I bet Cal wishes he had Twanny and Elgin.

Obviously, it's been a major hurdle this year... which, I'm afraid, will, in turn, negatively affect next year's team.

I disagree regarding the potential depth of next year's team, especially if Sidney is available. We may or may not be better, but we should have more depth than we did this year.

1- Bost, Beckham
2 - Smith, JUCO guy, Benock
3 - Johnson, Osby, Turner
4 - Augustus, Lewis, Osby, Turner
5 - Sidney, Bailey, Riek

Obviously, there are some BIG questions:whether or not Sidney stays; health issuesof Bailey, Smith, Beckham, and Riek; andtalent levelof the JUCO guard. Hopefully nobody transfers.

Edit to add Lewis. Sorry for the hijack.

...was a really hard one by Cousins and JV landed loudly on the floor (I was at the game). When Jarvis got up, he was moving very slowly like he was really hurting. I don't think fatigue had as much to do with his misses as pain. During the game and especially the second half, there were MANY fouls committed by UK that could have been (or should have been) called flagrant fouls. Some of them weren't even called fouls at all. I don't mind the refs "letting them play", but they were calling light fouls on us and allowing UK to play tackle football out there.

on TV (i was not at the game) they showed a replay close up of JV going to the floor. once down there he looked up, and then sort of laid his head down like he was exhausted, but not in pain. he also didn't act hurt when he got up.

that was my take on it anyway.

I could give you Syracuse and their 7 man rotation this year or I could give you John Wooden and his philosophy of only playing 7. We could talk about our Final 4 team or Michigan's Fab 5. What about the Duke Bobby Hurley teams or the UNLV squads they beat? All of these teams went with a 7 man rotation. We play 8.

With 8 official timeouts it's easy to manipulate plenty of rest. Jarvis missed those free throws because he's not a great free throw shooter. Dee had no problem draining a 3 from the corner when he actually took a good shot late in the game.

looking for more excuses to make ourselves feel better...

The 96 team had Hyche, Hughes, and Washington as subs and that was it if I remember correctly. I don't remember ever recalling about how 00 needed to be rested more.

It's called coaching and you use what you have available to rest people.
