I remember that game. Gotta cut people some slack- tourney games are 10x worse when you are losing like that. Especially when it's the title game. lol

Poor Rick Majerus. We played him in the tourney THREE straight years. And 4 times in FIVE seasons

That man deserves to haunt the hell out of the NCAA for that.

I have lived in Utah for 45 years now, Majerus was a great coach and motivator, but he just couldn't get over the Kentucky hump, and boy was I glad šŸ˜‚

It’s the worst I can remember and I go back to 1992 at 7 years old. Definitely the worst team I can remember. Add their numbers from the 5 games we’ve played against good competition. It’s staggering. And some of that is Pope, the guy can’t coach at this level.
No. You have not been paying attention. Geez. Sometimes you just should refrain from having an opinion. šŸ˜†

Oh I enjoyed beating him- thoroughly. He was a good dude though. Always gave us credit.

"When I die, they might as well bury me at the finish line of Churchill Downs, so they can run over me one more time."

Great quote- he's missed in this sport for sure.

UK should've made a plaque for him and put it there. Would've been a humorous nod.

Congratulations on your championship my guy. Is that #9? Or does beating Central South Carolina make this #10?

Congratulations on your national championship? I’ll wait until Kentucky is at Kentucky standards. Beating St. johns at Kentucky shouldn’t really be a thing. Not like the 4 or 5 if you keep pushing. I get the situation but again, this should be thought of as a win that’s guaranteed here and we don’t think twice about it. But your standards? Congratulations on your national championship. But I think you’ve gotten lost on the way to Bloomington my man. They celebrate games like that and put it on popcorn boxes.
Spoiled, bandwagon fan. So you crap on the team till we are on our way to the Natty and you run back squealing "I love my team!!!" What a joke lol

Bandwagon fans don't post on a message board when the team is losing. They just buy a tshirt of the winning team. Congratulations on your national title though. How retarded is this thread though? Dudes going back to a 1st half vent post. Where a fan is voicing frustration at the piss poor play of the 1st half. And a bunch of captain hindsights are coming in, with "Lol we won, what an idiot".

The fact our long standing rule about what's said in game threads stays in game threads is breaking down is part of the problem. Every poster on this board, including myself, has said something emotionally charged or stupid during a game. That's part of it. And we used to have a gentlemen's agreement here to not hold people to that like Gospel, unless it was REALLY dumb (like "Maybe we should hire BCG back").

Bandwagon fans only show up during good times and are nowhere to be seen when we're struggling. A good chunk of us are PASSIONATE UK Basketball fans that get involved in the emotion of our team and will rightfully say when we're sucking or praise when we do well. And want us to continue to be the best program in CBB history. That's part of being a fan.

Cultism has ruined too much crap in this country.

celebrating a single victory in the faces of Uk fans that were simply frustrated we weren’t playing well(to put it nicely). Thats IU popcorn box levels of pathetic tbh.

Fans like that are how IU became what they are now. Sadly we probably have enough of those types that UK basketball is doomed to experience the same fate.

Yep. I'm happy as hell we looked how we're supposed to look today. We've got a lot left to do and it doesn't excuse the lack of effort that even UK LEGENDS were calling out. For the love of all that's holy, CHARLES BARKLEY was giving us valid criticism. Was he wrong too?

If we end the season not making at least the S16 that's WORSE than last year. Now, that's away off and there's lots of ball to be played. And having Lowe and JQ are CRITICAL for success.

Sesaon isn't dead. Season isn't over. But we're still unranked. And still got a lot to prove. Let's enjoy a win. Let's celebrate JQ being back.

But we haven't reached our goals yet. AND THAT IS WHAT MATTERS at KENTUCKY.

tbf, the 21 team was a little better than their record. Bad enough that Cal shouldn’t have been brought back after that, but i think they finished top 50 in kenpom. They lost a bunch of close games against a really rough schedule. If they had the benefit of the cupcake games they probably finish closer to .500.
Meh, they lost to Richmond at home, then lost to a bad G-Tech team who was coached by a soft schmuck wearing a face shield.
Cal had 3 NBA talents on that team and crapped the bed about as bad as you can crap the bed.
But Cal was good with it, because dudes got drafted

Tbf, our last two first halves have been head slam worthy. I'm glad the last 2 2nd halves have been much better.

We've got to stop doing the get down by 10 crap.
Agreed. Pope needs to stop messing around and play his best players from the tip. He keeps rolling with DA at the point and every time, we find ourselves at the 16 minute mark with 4 total points. Just stop the bs, if Lowe is gtg, play him from the beginning.

Great post. I agree need a backup PG. But in today's environment that is not as easy as it sounds. Lowe was brought in to start. Any player good enough to make a difference one that has any aspirations of play professional in the US or abroad. Simply doesn't wanna go to any school to be a backup.
Someone like Kerr they could have over payed and maybe kept. But he is not a difference maker.
Lowe is definitely a difference maker. It just sucks that he will not be fully healthy and will likely miss games going forward.
Every guy at every position wants to start. Pg is no different than the other 4 spots on the floor. With 22 million to spend, you go out and get a legit pg to compete with Lowe for the starting spot.
You don't have to decide who the starting pg is in June, you make them earn the spot, just like the other 4 positions.

Sad story. Dude lived in a Hotel.

Nah, that's not horrible. Now, a motel? Yeah THAT would suck.

Hotels can be nice places to hang out, chill, see and meet different people. If you've got the money, and don't mind being in different places, it's not so ad.

Motels ae a bit of a different animal and that's the places you find yourself living when life isn't going so hot. God save us all from such days.

Chattanoogawildcat used to use the little laugh emoji too when fans would criticize Calipari in his last four years here. Dude is the epitome of a coach cultist. He views the coaching staff as something of a royal protected class and the equivalent of the program's fuller identity, when in fact the coach is merely a steward of making sure that our program standards are maintained and protected at all costs.

Why was it sad? He loved it. On what planet do you think you get to speak for what made him happy?

Maybe stick to being non-emotional about basketball games instead of prying into the emotional lives of dead men whose actual living record never confirmed the rubbish that you're spouting.

Not really sad, he had plenty of money, that's just how he wanted to live. Think about it, a maid making your room every day, and eating at restaurants, wouldn't be that bad, if your single. He was a tank of a man, and respected by most.
He was respected but the story is !00% sad. He died of gluttony at 63 for pete's sake. Some of the stories of his eating habits are disgusting. He cut of all his friends towards the end. Sad all around.

And yet thats not the issue...one thing we've also seen on tgis Board in years past is goldfish mentality. Crying and moaning, which is all forgotten at the end of the year (usually) then it restarts over each year. And not going undefeated abmnd winning every game by 30 is voicing "concerns", they aren't concerns tho...its entitlement mentality.

Granted, there, yes, of course was some things to be concerned about at the start of the year, bit in typical rafters fashion, everything has to be one extreme or the other. We beat Purdue in an exhibition, we're going undefeated, we lose some games bc we arent looking that well early in the year, well we're going to the NIT, pope had to resign or he needs to be fired midseason. See the stupidity there

Im going to let you in on a big secret...no one has went undefeated in 40+ years, turn around are possible, individual games arent a sample size, seasons are long. Ppl on here are notorious for wanting whatever the flavor of the week is as a solution

That only sounds dismissive. Majerus knows basketball cost him a marriage, kids. More than once he investigated adopting a child alone and allowed himself to be talked out of it. But the boys he never had and raised are never far from his mind. The boosters saw that in the bar back in October, when, apropos of nothing, he dropped into a public reverie, his voice gone mournful and soft. ā€œI wish I could’ve had a kid like Dwayne Polk or Luke Meyer,ā€ he said of two of his seniors. ā€œI don’t have any regrets other than that. I look at Luke and think, Boy, his parents must feel so special to have that kind of a kid.ā€

Well, missing the tournament was starting to become a real possiblity if we lost to IU and SJs. We're 8-4. That still means we've lost 30% of our games. It's not a great start. It's fixable though.

However, if Lowe gets hurt again......that's still not out of the realm......

Nothing is certain at this point. We might be great from here on out. We might still struggle. I'm less worried than I was two weeks ago, but let be real we were avg close to a 20pt deficit in our losses at one point.

Entitlement mentality? Come on man. This is KENTUCKY. No one bitches about Bama football fans expecting to win titles and compete for them. There's a reason they have the most championship in football. And their fans are a part of that. Same goes for us in basketball.

Sure, complaining about not winning by 30 every game is insane. I haven't seen much of that. Complaining we're getting our heads bashed in while Pope looked like he was staring off into the sunset was a bit valid. Still complaining about his wacked out lineups is STILL valid.

There's still things to be concerned about. Hopefully most of them are now manageble. Maybe this is it. Maybe we've tossed off the millstone. I sure hope so- because I'm tired of seeing our program STRUGGLE. We haven't had ANY hardware since 2018. EIGHT LONG YEARS AGO.
We haven't made the SECT Championship game since 2022. It will be four years in March. We're in the second longest SECT title drought in our history. We haven't won the regular conference title since 2020- and only ONCE since 2017.

And yes, that matters.

That being said, yes, it's a bit sad he did cut off all his friends.
