He has the best talent of any position on the team, I mean he has 2 corners that are 6'3 and some good young guys, the kids from Ga and Ohio that they have committed may play next year, they may be better than the guys we recruited.

He has some really good talent here that he has been key in bringing in.

Good news, and a logical move IMO, he can make a much bigger name for himself with the talent he has here now. If he should leave now I wouldn't think much of his character, sounds like he has made his decision and I don't think that will happen now though.

BTW, that's Devonte Robinson's dad who made that tweet - six days ago. Ansley also attended Robinson's football award ceremony at HC on Sunday. Good signs, I think.

Make sense with the reports we are hearing. I think if he were leaving, Stoops would not have had him out talking to players, especially the last few days before dead period. He stays is great news for our program.

I may be mistaken, but I believe Ansley's contract was up after this season. If I'm correct on that, UK probably is negotiating a raise. He previously was still being paid by Tennessee with UK supplementing.

Would appear he's staying but staffs are still being filled, not sure UK's out of the woods yet. Always a possibility something pops up. If he's here mid-Jan he stays.

Nobody will ever tell a recruit, "I'm thinking about leaving" it's day by day for every assistant, regardless where they coach. That's why it's called a coaching carousel. I hope he stays but he probably has other options if he wants them. Not sure if UGA or Bama has an open DB position.

Bama has DB coaches right now, UGA doesn't have one, there was talk of some talk of Ansley last week, but he hasn't been mentioned in 5-6 days. I am just guessing Smart is talking to Bama's DB coach from last year, Pruitt their new DC is a DB coach, neither have coached anything else at the college level. But it may be a month before we find out anything on him.

Grumpy, thought I saw where Bama's DB coach joined Durkin's staff at Maryland.

If he did I guess we missed on him, Mel Tucker is his name, he is a Big10 guy so maybe he decided to head in that direction. But our board felt he was in play as of yesterday. No idea which direction we turn if he has fallen through.

Devonte Robinson in my mind is the cream of the class! He has world class speed and the ONLY reason he is not a 4 or 5 star is because he has not attended all of the All-Star camps! He will be VERY hard to keep off the field! Remember where you heard this! Bama and Ohio State are recruiting him hard! Get him signed!

Yeah, I misread the thing, not unusual for me. The guy who took the Maryland job wasn't the DB coach but one of the lessers, the "admin assts" Bama's so good at hiding. Guess he's a young guy just getting his start n coaching.

But to the topic at hand, doesn't change things for Ansley. Still a question in my mind whether he stays or goes.

Agree. His highlight video is fantastic. A big guy, too, with great speed.

Think Ansley will get a hefty raise by UK, probably be right behind the 2 coordinators and Marrow.
Think the fact he has great players at his spot and some really good ones coming in, he might want to coach them up. Saban is not the easiest guy to work for, Probably never worked a ton with Smart. Ansley probably feels that UK is going to ante up and he will be a hot commodity in 2 years or 3 years with the talent he has at his spot.

I think this staff is really close so maybe feel loyalty, Stoops allows Ansley to coach and gives him a lot leeway from what I have been told. Let's hope UK pays him a big raise.
IMO

Smart has hired one of those Bama Staffers too. 5 years ago Jeremy Pruitt was one of those staffers. Of course you know none of the 50 or so they have never stepped foot on the practice field with the team.

Nah, they wouldn't do that.

But it would be hard for a recruit to follow a guy right after he says he's going to stay. So it should mean something.

I really wish the majority of our fans understood how bad this roster was when Stoops got here. We play teams that have top 15 recruiting classes with the same coaches in place for 5 10 years. Why is it so difficult to understand this thing takes time and changing head coaches right now would fix nothing.

I agree and understand about the roster being weak on talent when Stoops took over. However, I watch high school and middle school teams who can get lined up on the field and are disciplined. That has nothing to do with how many stars are beside your name.

This is a different situation than Marrow. I bet Michigan is glad he passed.

And why exactly would Michigan be glad he passed? Anyone hiring Marrow is doing it mainly because he is a recruiting beast in the Ohio region. Nothing has changed with that and I'm sure Michigan would want Marrow for just that role still.

...And oh by the way....Michigan has all of ZERO recruits this year from Ohio. Yeah, I'm sure they wouldn't want Marrow....thanks for your usual great feedback

I enjoy the heck out of the "ignore" feature. Try it - makes this board almost bearable.

Marrow isn't just a great recruiter, he's a very good position coach too. Michigan and a whole lot of other programs would love to have him. I'm glad that UK does have him!

Good news if he stays. He has a good crop committed and has some very good talent returning. I believe that he and Stoops really need to improve the consistency of our play at safety, but the talent level seems greatly improved from what we had 3 years ago. Edwards, Walker, and West represent the future at safety and they each benefitted from a year to get bigger and mature before they were thrown into the mix. They need experience and must show discipline and a better understanding of the defense. Baity and Westry are young and should be good starters to our young crop of DBs. Ansley and Stoops have the talent with which to work. Switching horses now probably would be a bad move, as it appears these two coaches work well together. Time will tell.

We need him here bad. I think we will have one of the better D-backfields in the SEC in the next couple years.

Ansley's name came back up today on UGA's board. Mel Tucker is who Smart wants. He is a career long DB coach and has some DC experience in the NFL, Pruitt is also a career long DB coach and was named the DC. So either one is going to coach a position he has never coached before or Tucker is likely leaving. But if decides to stay and coach LB, Smart is going to contact Ansley. So apparently nothing is going to happen until after Bama is done in the playoffs. I have no idea if Ansley would be interested or not.
