But, it seems as if the OP doesn't really know what "gimmick" means. Obviously, he's trying to use it as some sort of insult. But, by definition, gimmick is an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, especially one designed to attract attention or increase appeal. So, if, in fact, it is a "gimmick," it's apparently working.
