East Aurora has two wins in the UEC this year and WA is finding it hard to win games away from the UEC (and it's going to get harder).

Sure it is, I like what Nate's done with the program and REALLY looking forward to playing them this week for their homecoming.

The Upstate 8 has turned into a bunch of schools that nobody wanted or schools that wanted to run away. The Elgin's, Streamwoods, East Auroras never have enough lower level teams and the West Chicagos and Glenbard Easts got sick of getting pummeled by the DVC schools. Glenbard South and Fenton have been searching for someone to take them in for over a decade. This once proud conference is an absolute cluster.

Last year I believe a 9-0 GE won in round 1 only to run into ESL and lose round 2. The rest of the conference almost all lost in round 1 except West Aurora. The conference champ, most likely South Elgin will go into the playoffs with a ton of confidence, beat a 5-4 team in the 1st round and if they're lucky get some 7-2 that's not use to playing that time of year. If they are unlucky they'll run into a proverbial playoff experience program that will pick them apart due to the lack of competition that they've faced throughout the year. The best team in the Upstate 8 can only be mad at their conference foes for not making them better throughout the regular season in preparation for the post season.

Fairly accurate, however, as a fan/parent of a team that has gone 9-0 a few times recently, I am always leery of drawing that 5-4 Catholic league team/DVC team.

Soucie's recent playoff projections are exactly why going 9-0 playing the 5-4 DVC team scares me. He's got (1) Minooka vs (32) Naperville Central in round 1.

1 non conference games only make sense if you schedule like Maine South etc if you going to play another East Aurora West Chicago
the Big 12 favorite played an out of conference and was pummeled 42-8

I can see West Aurora playing East Aurora and renewing that rivalry, I can see Oswego, however, playing the best team that is available.

All this talk about your conference preparing you is a little over-rated. Rochester is good every year. Only play one good team. GBW same thing. The WSS has been down for some time now. NOTHING can prepare a South Elgin or GBE for a Catholic school or SOME DVC schools, but you can only play with what you have when you're a public school. Either you're better than the other team, or you're not. Your schedule can only take you so far otherwise Neuqua, Lyons, Barrington, etc. would've won 5 state titles by now.

Those teams Neuqua plays also play killer schedules. Look, no one wants to play a 5-4 DVC team in the first round.

Rochester conference consist of 5A through 7A teams so yes their conference prepare them for the 4A playoffs every year. GBW always schedule tough non conference teams which help as well.

And thats why some captive conferences are now playing one non-conference game
Thats why i used Maine South as an example
They have that conference winning streak but every year they played a pretty good 2 game non conference schedule
ie Mt. Carmel and Glenbard West
There was something to gauge them by
Warren played two nonconference teams plus still has stevenson and lake zurich on the schedule
Now if they beat those two teams by 20,30 40 points
Stevenson played non conference LWE and NV

I hate our capped conference, at least this year WA and Yorkville are new teams and local rivals, but I miss playing NV, WV, Providence, Batavia and quality non-conference opponents. Likely it's why Oswego can't break into some of the rankings and Edgy dropped them two spots this week with a win (even though he thinks Minooka has a tough game this week in Pl. North, the same team Oswego just beat ;)

Two good teams and Rochester every year. How is that different than CSL South or Mid suburban West?

What's that got to do with this season? It's true, but teams and programs change. Look at Bartlett. Look at Palatine. Look at Naperville North. List goes on.
I was adding clarity and context to what he said. He was talking about last season.
