The Mississippi Public Service Commission regulates gas, water, sewer, electricity, home phones and cell phones. They regulate these and help guarantee service because these services have been deemed "an important factor in the safety and
quality of life." Access to Federal government, State government and now local government services are quickly going to e-government. I can manage all of my issues with the Federal Government and almost all of my dealings with State government online. In the next year or so, I'll be able to do most of my business with local government online. However, I can't get affordable and reliable internet service to access e-government.
I'd love to see the Legislature step in and require telephone companies that operate in Mississippi to also offer DSL internet service to all of their customers at the same rate that they offer current DSL customers in the State.
I've talked to the linemen that work on the phone lines here in Starkville. Several of these guys have told me that the equipment is in place and the lines are up to standard for AT&T to offer DSL service yet they say that corporate just won't turn it on. I HATE AT&T!!!!! The Government broke up Ma Bell many years ago for a reason. Why are they letting them come back together??????????
If you can't tell, this subject hits a nerve with me!
