Southern Guilford HS open once again

According to the Guilford County Schools website Southern is open again. As an alumni, it’s disappointing that we can’t figure it out. Ever since Coach Bates lefts us, it’s been rough. It seemed like Coach Bradley had us moving in the right direction but he could never get us over the hump. Then he left us for Trinity. After Coach Boykin left, Coach Mills seemed to get us moving in the right direction until we got placed on this new conference. We will be on our 5th head coach since the end of the 22-23 season. Hopefully the AD can get a good candidate. His basketball hire has been bad so far. Especially after Coach Perry did such a great job with the program. Seems like the school as a whole has been on a downward slope.

I heard that interviews are taking place this week. What could fix the school, I think, is someone willing to stick around and see the rebuild through, someone who is willing to get out and connect with the community. Southern used to be a community school, and it isn't that anymore. In the last two years, we have gotten a new Principal and AD. Hopefully, they can figure it out. Some of the candidates who have an interview are interesting. For my son's sake, I hope they keep it in-house so they have some consistency. Regardless seems like a decent candidate pool.
