What’s the deal with this team? They look pretty good on film but were totally run off the field by EStl & Eville?

Hopefully West learned from those 2 loses and can put up a fight. I would love for West to win this game but WWS gets this one.

They just seem to struggle in big games. There were a few years going back I believe against Oswego East and Normal where they had some key injuries entering the playoffs, which hurt them, but still haven't been able to seal the deal against SWC powers and playoff games.

It seemed to me they didn't really try to stretch the field against Edwardsville, with the exception, of a few plays in the first half. The Offense looked better against East Side.

I think if they can establish a moderate to deep passing game early then they will be in this game throughout, but they still have to prove they can get it done on the bigger stages for me to have the confidence they can go into Chicagoland and pull out a Win.

Belleville West was fairly competitive for 3 quarters against an ESL team that many, myself included, believe will be playing for a state championship in 7a. They're a good team and this first round match up is winnable for them. With that being said, WWS is a program and sometimes that can be the difference. As a Flyer fan, I hated when ESL ran into WWS in the playoffs. I know that WWS is not what they used to be, but they still have to be the favorites in this one. Rooting for BW though!

The difference in BW is their motivation. If they played every team like the play ESL, their playoff record would be a lot better. They scored points on ESL simply because ESL challenged them by playing man. BW have a real nice WR and a very consistent WR. Again their biggest issue is motivation. BW did not bring the same intensity to E'ville as they did ESL. The team that played ESL will give any team problems however the team that played E'ville will not make it far. WWS defense will match E'villes but I don't know of WWS have a play maker like KAR for E'ville.

Here is a West review:
https://www.bnd.com/latest-news/article220546460.html

The West coaching staff named McCloskey the team’s most valuable player on offense for his school-record 1,977 passing yards and 34 touchdowns. Still just a junior, he’s also completed 57 percent of his 217 attempts and has a near-perfect passer rating of 123.67.

But he’s not the only valuable weapon in the Maroons’ huddle. Lanxon, a senior, has caught 36 passes for 550 yards and six touchdowns. With just 113 more reception yards, he’ll be the school’s career leader in that category. Tight end Will Shumpert (14 catches, 186 yards and 4 TD) also has been an important safety valve for McCloskey.

The Maroons can still run the football, much to McCloskey’s chagrin — “Any time we can throw it is alright with me,” he says. But senior running back DJ Johnson has balanced West’s attack with 887 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Jordan Bruce has kicked in 224 more yards and a pair of scores on just 30 attempts.

But McCloskey seems to have developed special chemistry with receiver Dominic Lovett, a sophomore who already owns the school record for career touchdown receptions. The two have connected on 23 touchdowns this season.

Game on!

Nine yards on the first run. Now a first down by West. next set of downs, West punting at their 30.

Wws ball at their 35. They move the chains. Ball at the 45. Wws concerted third a 12 ... even after West D calls timeout ... this is not looking good so far.

Three and out by Belleville West and then the quarter ended. Punt was first play of the second quarter and the Tigers returned it for six.

Then Belleville West hits a bomb and do just out runs everyone. Of course they shank the PAT. 17 to 6 with 11 minutes and 16 seconds left in the second

According to some (cough, cough lol) Belleville West is only good when they play Eastside, but this Wheaton Warrenville South team looks pretty good so far to me.

I’m in a fortunate position in that while I’d like West to win, I enjoy watching them lose too.

And the teams trade possessions a couple of times ... then a WWS punt bounced off a West player and Tigers pounce. Ball at the West 25.

West moving the ball. It’s at the 44 - 6:04 left. Now a good run but a hold.

Intercepted.

5:12 4q. WWS ball at their 30.
