LA was supposed to spank O'Fallon - and they did.

Belleville West gave Normal a tough 20-18 game - two-point conversion with 1:16 left failed.

Edwardsville beat OPRF - barely with a OT kick.

ESL spanked LWW.

2-2.

I'd like to see that - and see another Althoff Rochester game. Get me a press pass and I'll cover it for you.

I heard O'Fallon jumped on Loyola 14-0 in the 1st and had a TD called back in the 4th for an inconsequential penalty that would have tied it at 21. Very good showing by the SWC.

So it was the 3rd quarter when the TD was called back?

Loyola received the ball to start the second half and punted. I'm pretty sure it happened on O'Fallon's opening drive of Q3. It would have had to have been before the 5:37 mark of the 3rd which is when LA made it 28-14. Just know that the score couldn't possibly have been tied at 21 in the 4th if a TD had been called back at that point, seeing as how LA was already up 35-14 at the end of the 3rd.

O'F definitely came out swinging and gave LA a game in the 1st half. And never did lay down. LA had their way from the later part of the 2nd qtr on though.

The penalty on the TD called back was very significant in that O'F probably would've walked away with points had it not been for the holding call. However, I dont think the outcome would be any different.

The holding call was an obvious one because the WR was downfield and once he realized the ball carrier was coming his way he grabbed the DB with both hands as they were both turning around and literally swung him out of bounds. They were right at the front pile on, basically right in front of the ref. It would've been a really bad no-call. Even if the WR whiffed on the block, OF at least would've got down to the 1 or 2 yard line. He was frustrated after going back and forth with the other kid all game. Costly mistake but not a game changer.

Interesting. Good for O'Fallon to put up a good fight after a long bus ride at the #1 team in the state after getting kicked around in the SWC.

O 'Fallon did, in fact, score the first two TDs of the game. Loyola led 21-14 at the half. At the 7:42 mark of the 3rd qr, O 'Fallon drove deep into Loyola territory and scored (what appeared) to be the tying TD. It was called back on a holding penalty. It was all Loyola after that. Sounds like ramblinman didn't attend the game. Nice win by Edwardsville BTW.

Sounds like the Panthers held their own for 3 quarters. Impressive considering the caliber of team they were playing and the long trip up North. I know some SWC teams will be glad to see Hewitt graduate.

Love seeing serious football strength from other parts of the state. No reason in my mind we shouldn't have stronger teams every year coming out of the Rockford, Quad Cities, Springfield and St. Louis areas.

SWC has to do a better job of winning their non conference games to gain better seeding in the playoffs. As a conference this was a bad year for the first two weeks which was costly during the seeding for playoffs. It's typical for the 3rd and 4th place teams to have 2 and 3 losses so playoff points need to be a lot stronger. There are some top seeded teams in both 8A and 7A that O'fallon or West would have had better chances with. LA is LA and Normal and West know each other too well.

I guess Loyola's AD Pat Mahoney wasn't at the game either. I pulled the scoring and timing info directly from his Twitter page. https://twitter.com/patmahoneyad?lang=en

Patrick Mahoney‏@PatMahoneyAD
Terrell hauls in a 14 yd fade, #goramblers lead 28-14 with 5:37 to play in 3rd

Patrick Mahoney‏@PatMahoneyAD
Rock with two nice runs and he scores on 2nd run from 5 yards out! #goramblers lead 35-14 with 2:16 to go in 3rd
... and what part of my reply wasn't accurate? There is a link to the game. As I said... it was all Loyola after the interception.

Never claimed it was inaccurate. Simply citing my sources.

As I said, the game couldn't possibly have been tied at 21 in the 4th if that TD hadn't been called back.

I'll say this...I don't know much about the SWC. By the looks of O'Fallon, they were better than most 5-4 teams in this area. Probably better than many of the 7-2 teams.

LA played O'F three years ago in week one or two and had their hands full. They had tons of talent on the field. The next year Edwardsville came up to Wilmette and was ahead and in control of the game for 3-1/2 quarters until LA made a late comeback. I've seen nothing but good football out this conference in my limited experience between watching these two programs over the past few years and seeing some of their film.

I don't think programs around here ever really look forward to drawing an E'ville, B'ville, ESL or O'F in the playoffs.
