Joe Sisera on the HSXtra.com page suggests that SP, if they won the coin toss, would opt to take the ball first. What do you guys and gals think and why?
Obviously 3 that do not follow Red Raider football very closely.I wonder who are the folks voting for taking the ball first and not commenting.
Yeah, well, when you kick it to one of their best kick returners. I thought the Red Raiders would have a bit more in them but you can't have 150 lb guys taking a beating from 275 -300 lb guys. You see the shocked look on my face? Had them exactly where we wanted them but it went down hill quickly from there.
That very first kickoff puzzles me the most. All year long we have kicked into the endzone for no return. Why we kicked short to the 10 is a mystery. Was that some kind of awful strategy by the coaches or was our kicker injured or overcome with nerves? That play didn't mean a hill of beans in the end but it sure did set the tone early.Yeah, well, when you kick it to one of their best kick returners. I thought the Red Raiders would have a bit more in them but you can't have 150 lb guys taking a beating from 275 -300 lb guys.
SP will always defer and I agree with it especially in a game like this. We have grown to know that SP is a 2nd half team and adjustments at the half are always implemental in SP winning games. Against Dudley, no one really expected us to be ahead at the half. Getting the ball first to start the 2nd coming off adjustments would have been ideal. It is in your best interest to not let Dudley be on defense first when you match up with them. Give them the ball and ask what their offense can do. The key against a team like Dudley is to match their defensive intensity and not let them kill you with speed on specials. I don't think SP had the horses this year to do that. So it seems to me Joe Sirera was right, it was probably in SPs best interest to take the ball first and try to score.
From the sounds of it, SP was going to have a hard time against Dudley's explosive vertical passing attack. So in this case, it doesn't really matter what you always do.. taking the ball first and grinding out the clock and trying to do what you do best was most likely the play in this game.
The triple option is a play....... not an offense.Very proud of the entire SP football team. We had a few breaks to go our way or we would have been out second round. The players showed a lot of heart throughout the season, especially during the playoffs. South Point fans will continue to see the raiders struggle when playing teams with winning records until the REDBONE is truly a triple option. Mixing pass plays in on a more routine basis is a necessity if the raiders are ever going to win another championship. Even if the pass is not complete it tends to keep the defense honest. While I am at it, if the pass is not seen consistently in practice, a good pass defense is not likely either. SP weakest link had to be the inability to defend against a good pass. They might want to con a few basketball players into playing defensive backs. Wow! that could be exciting... sp having a d-back taller than 5'8''. All this put aside Dudley would have beaten SP 10 out of 10 times this year. The two teams were not well matched at all. Best of luck to Dudley in the championship. Already looking for to fall and it is not even Christmas yet. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE! .... RR
Our game plan sound. But you don't game plan to lose your QB on play four and a starting WB in the second quarter. We've said it wouldn't have mattered, Dudley wins that game 10 out of 10 probably but its much closer than 38-0.it would not have mattered this, it would not have mattered that... hind sight is 20/20... but setting up your team to have the best chance to succeed is what mattered, and SP coaches decision seemed to have squandered it. like I said, what didnt matter is what you ALWAYS do in the past. making the right decision based on your opponent is ALWAYS the right thing to do.
To me, it seemed like SP didn't quite know who they were playing. And based this game off of past experiences. Most successful programs defer to the 2nd half.. its nothing new. But, sometimes you have to change things up to give your team the best chance to win.
What is a triple option offense in football? The triple option is a play....... not an offense.
Congratulations you can use Google! Like I stated the triple option is 1 play, it's not our entire offense. What is a triple option offense in football?
The triple option is an American football play used to offer several ways to move the football forward on the field of play. ... The triple option is based on the option run, but uses three players who might run with the ball instead of the two used in a standard option run.
