If we’re just going to start renting 21 year old pro EuroLeague players for a season what’s the point in any of this anymore?
What is the difference in paying a small school player 2 mil to play at UK or a player from another country? It is OK to pay guy A because he played at Sam Houston State but not player B because he played in Serbia?

Maybe I want the money to stay for American players.

Maybe I don’t like the idea of guys who’ve been playing pro ball since they were 15,16 just showing up on campus for a one year paycheck.

This is not what NIL was supposed to be.

I have zero idea what you mean but when we see college basketball filled with guys 21,22 who played pro EuroLeague ball getting paid for a year…we’ve lost the plot
After what has happened the past 2 seasons, the “plot” has been “lost” for a while now.

You’re only assured one season with ANY kid now days, why not bring in the best player possible no matter WHERE he’s from?

Yeah a 17 or 18 year old kid. Not 21,22 year old pros and calling them “freshman”

They weren’t 22 year olds having played pro ball for 5 or six years.

You know that.
The shremph brothers was almost 19 when they came to Washington to play. The red haired german player that was going to go to UK was 20 going on 21. All of that was back in the early 80s. Age is the big problem here. We have 26 year old players playing since the covid fiasco. Times are a changing. There is hardly any Student athletes playing for the power 4 teams. Power 4 should be their own division along with football. Leave the student athletes for the mid majors and cherry pick each year from that group.

So all these politicians making sure this is a global economy you want public universities to only play American players. Heck lets make it Native American players only. They are the real people from this country.

I hate the global economy, it has ruined American manufacturing. But when we are talking about college free agency (again not student athletes) I will give it a pass. Maybe NBA should also be only for American players as well.

Who cares what nil was supposed to be? Nothing you can do about it to change it,, lol.. I don't care who gets paid as long as help us win.. If that's a player from overseas who's 22 and played pro ball,, get him..

That is my point the poster I replied to wants only American 17 or 18 year old players on UK team. Also does not want older players in the NCAA. His points were an odd argument.

Who are the “shremph brothers”?
Spelling is wrong but Detlef Shrempf and his brother. He was predicted to be coming to UK and ended up playing at UW. That was back in the early 80s.

this is nothing more than free agency
you have someone for 1 year, some may stay longer, but seldom do
they are "hired" to win games

If José can fill it up from deep, maybe play a little defense, and wants to be a Cat, gimme one and/or two of José.

You’re making up an imaginary brother.

Yes, Detlef played for UW in the 80s. But he did not have a brother.

have you been smoking the wacky stuff today? You seem to have made up an imaginary player. Here’s a link showing the rosters of Det’s college teams:

I see only one Schrempf listed. How many do you see?
Nope do not smoke anything. I have not looked at the link. But for some reason recall he had a brother. Even on his linkedin page there is discussion of his twin brother. So not sure. Maybe he played and his brother did not, maybe he played somewhere else out there or maybe i am thinking of another German player and twin brother. Just not sure.

I just googled to see what you’re talking about …and now I’m laughing even harder..

So you honestly believe that Asian guy named Vincent Lee literally is Detlef Schrempf’s twin brother? And that he was Det’s teammate at UW? LOL

Again, did not look at the link, just reading the google info. Do not care to go to link. Uwe Blab was the other player UK tried to get that same time (red haired guy to Indiana). I might have been mistaken on Schrempf but I do remember twin German guys about that same time coming to USA to play ball. Just cannot recall the name and mixed it up with Deltef.

I believe you’re thinking of Gunther Behnke. A big German who actually committed to UK and enrolled … which got a ton of publicity at the time …before promptly changing his mind and returning to Germany.

I don’t believe UK ever recruited Blab or Schrempf.

Gunther I do remember as well. Hall did not have any luck with foreign guys for sure. But thought we were in the convo for both the others, as well as UNC for Schrempf (again just going by memory and not looking anything up). Back then we had the cats pause as our insider info. That was about it.

Meanwhile...

I have zero problem with even old pros coming back to "finish their education", much less any issue with young ones that have exhausted no years.

Bring em on. We may have ours for a couple. I'll take it.
