Does this program pay journalists to pump them up the way they do? I mean even Phil Steel had UofL ranked higher than us going into last season even though we had beaten them by a combined 44 points in 2021 and 2022.

Conference favorites Clemson, Florida State and North Carolina aren’t on the schedule, and Notre Dame visits on Oct. 7. The Cardinals could be in the ACC championship game picture heading into November, where they close with a road trip to Miami and the finale against Kentucky. The Wildcats have won the last four in that series. The CFP is asking for too much, but a quick-fix New Year’s Day Six Bowl run – like Michigan State in 2021 – isn’t out of the question.

Huh?

Someone got some Derby Week love even though he wasn't covering the race, right?

Its offseason folks, these guys are just desperate to find something interesting to throw against the wall and see if it gets clicks.

I obviously would not have UL as a darkhorse title contender but Brohm is a good coach in a bad conference and they avoid Clemson and Florida St this year. I would pick them to win 8 or 9 games. The ACC is a terrible conference.

I’m not sure if you have heard america does not have a free press any longer. Lol Programs have a media budget. They write what they are paid to write.

Actually your post should have read that we had beaten them by a combined score of 153-44 the previous three times we played them before they ranked them ahead of us. the 2022 game happened after that pre-season ranking. They got that lofty ranking because some morons thought Malik Cunningham was a Heisman darkhorse or some nonsense.

Interesting tidbit. We played UofL 6 timed between 1912 and 1924 and beat them all 6 times by a combined score of 220-0

Phil Steele pubs are a joke with their predictions. They've whiffed on UK perennially for decades now. Anybody can (and like Phil does) ride the obvious front runners to predictive success. I laugh every time my friend buys the mags because they always get UK wrong

I always got a kick out of watching WildCard using Phil Steel’s pub to pump them up every preseason, dude always said it was the best indicator of how the season would play out.

The article is ridiculous, but it's basically just a result of an absolutely pathetic schedule. If they were to go 10-2 or 11-1, it's 100% a byproduct of a bad schedule.

They will have a good win/loss total because they play in a soft as hell conference and avoid a couple of decent teams that would probably beat them. They will convince themselves, again, that this is the year they beat us. They will be disabused of this notion by the end of the 1st quarter, again.

Steele's book contains a metric **** ton of info, but his predictions are no better than most. When he hits on a prediction, he'll throw his shoulder out patting himself on the back. When he misses, he'll give a myriad of excuses why he missed it and quickly point out that others missed it as well.

In looking at the big picture, I fully expect Brohm to pull some huge upsets and have some great years. His record won't be as good as his fans think. I don't expect he will be that much better than Satterfield, record-wise. Brohm will steal some kids from us here or there, especially in Louisville. He'll beat us a few times. Overall, he'll be successful. But making the playoffs? I'm not seeing it. TCU showed it can be done, in those wimpy conferences. But Louisville? I'll have to see that to believe it.

It should, but it never seems to help us in the rankings or bowl hierarchy. It doesn't do sht for us, which is why I don't care if we continue the series. I'd rather add ND, UNC, OR, or someone with a recruiting footprint where we haven't already proven ourselves.

If you think about it, they just have to win ONE tough conf game next year (the championship game) to be considered for the playoff. ONE. Much much easier than being at Purdue, and immensely less tough than having to beat FL, GA, TN, and Bama or LSU (while also playing SC, MSU, and Mizzou).

It's a smart move for Brohm because he's got a schedule almost as tough as the MAC, but he will really have to take advantage of the down years and times the big dogs they play have serious injuries at key positions.

(Emphasis added for the slow folks)

Are you forgetting that they play us? I'd consider us a tough game.

Lol. What do you think? Problem for you is that WE AREN'T IN THEIR CONFERENCE, and I was speaking specifically about "conf games" in my post. ;)

That's fine, but it isn't about conference alone. It's your total record that gets you in the playoffs. See what I'm saying? They could be unbeaten in that conference, lose to us, and not get in the playoffs. And wouldn't that be sweet?

Of course it isn't, but I didn't say it was. Just like I didn't say playing us wasn't a tough game.

They could lose to us and still win their conference including championship game and STILL get IN the playoffs, when it's expanded to 12 teams.

Not to piss in anyone's Wheaties but the article was about this coming season. Not the future.
