Sports bar with great food?

Hi. A restaurant foodie here. Went down with the family for the NW game. (I was the "seats in the shade" post) We went to the Frog and the Peach based on a recommendation - very nice.

Going back down tomorrow. For dinner after the game this time, I'm thinking sports bar with a lot of TVs, so we can watch football and baseball games. Any suggestions on a sports bar with great food?

Thanks.

Not sure there’s anything that fits your request perfectly, but I’d go with Stuff Yer Face as the closest thing. Plenty of tv’s, good bar atmosphere and bolis

It’s a chain, but Millers Ale House is pretty solid for bar food and TVs.

Have done Joe's Crab Shack for post game 🍻. Food not great, but decent. A+ on the flat panels.

If you're going to be in NB, can't go wrong at all with Stuff Yer Face (famous for the bolis, but the other food is pretty good too) and they have several TVs, but nowhere near as many as a major sports bar, or the Olive Branch, which has a lot more TVs and has excellent bar food (great wings/pizzas/sandwiches/fries) - my favorite place to watch RU away games, as they have RU on every TV with LOUD game sound. I'd rather go to either of these than most of the other places mentioned in this thread (been to most of them), although neither has the 30+ TVs you might get in a huge sports bar.

If you want to try something a bit different in NB, maybe try Destination Dogs, which has great hot dogs from every cuisine internationally and they have a cool bar with a bunch of TVs (but again, not 30). The big sports bars with decent food that I can think of off the top of my head are Gabriele's and Brick House, both in P'way, the North Brunswick Pub, and Tommy's Tavern & Tap in Edison (Route 1), but as a foodie (even a bar food foodie), you won't really get much original at the big sports bars, whereas the other places I mentioned aren't chains and are much higher up on the original scale.

I visited a MAH in Paramus only about a month ago. Their Burger and fries were horrible. And that is like saying a pizza or BJ is horrible. Lol

I haven’t been to that one in ages. I usually go to the new one in Watchung. And in Woodbridge. But fair enough. To be honest, I’d really like some good recommendations as well. It’s really hard to screw up bar food and yet so many still do.

Thanks all for the advice. FWIW, us foodies don’t need fancy food or a very nice place. It’s just that where we eat is a really big deal every night.

For sports bars, if there is one thing from the kitchen that is completely amazing (say the burgers, the pizza, the wings, etc), it makes my night!

North Brunswick Pub has a load of TVs at the bar and each booth has its own TV and the food is good

Change of plans. It’s 6:30am and for the last 45 minutes, I’ve been thinking about matzah ball soup and a bagel with skin-on lox, aerated cream cheese and extra capers. Oddly I think my ideal drink with this is a vanilla shake

If this is in front of me right after a Rutgers win, I might tear up

If you find yourself in Cherry Hill, Kaminski’s is solid. I wouldn’t say it’s gourmet, but very good sports bar food. Their orange glazed salmon and chicken portofino are winners every time.

That's disappointing. I thought the Miller's on 22 north plainfield had decent drink prices and apps pricing. Qeusadellis were good, all I tried. . Plenty of bar stools also with two bars in there.

I only had a couple of drafts so not sure on other drinks and went with a classic cheeseburger and fries.
I personally didn't like the bun they used which was a black and white sesame - it had a very off putting flavor but that may be because they also had some sort of strong seasoning in the burger as well.
Fries also had a similar seasoning on them like the burger and very difficult to tell the difference in taste between the burger and fries.
The presentation also just seemed sort of lazy. Maybe a bad day for them or it is just that location- who knows. But would have preferred a diner burger over that one.

On the other hand- Rafferies- love their burger and fries and all their other sandwiches are huge and very good and fresh. Often got the coconut shrimp for an app but they now changed it to panko fried shrimp which was also very good.

At these types of places- I usually will get a burger on my first trip in and sit at the bar. It will usually tell you what everything else will be like.

Unfortunately, every kosher place will be closed on the Sabbath (and especially on Rosh Hashanah), but Harold's NY Deli in Edison is not kosher and they have what you're looking for, although in mammoth sizes. I've had a few bites of their bagel with lox and it's very good, but I can't order anything there other than the pastrami on rye, which, IMO, is better than the more famous Katz's or 2nd Ave Deli in NYC (we get Harold's every month or two). And they have incredible, but again, huge, vanilla shakes for $17. If you're a foodie and you've never been there, you need to go.

Rafferty's is one of our go-to spots for great sandwiches, burgers and the like and it's a decent place to sit at the bar and watch a game. Famous for their desserts, too with their shop right next door and I'm still mourning the loss of their Sunday brunch buffet, due to COVID - was the best brunch in CNJ.

I go there often after I have a business meeting in the area. Never there for brunch when they used to have it.
