There are now 5 'artists' who want their music taken down: Neil Young, Indie Arie, Nils Lofgren, Graham Nash and Joni Mitchell.
First, my suspicion is that the royalties all of these 'artists' make from Spotify don't amount to much so they're not really giving up all that much. FWIW, Young sold his catalog so he has no say so over whether Spotify takes his music down or not.
Second, I have over 800 songs on my Liked Songs on Spotify and none of the above show up at all. Can't imagine any of the above are on heavy play with a majority of Spotify listeners who tend to be younger than I am.
Third, Nils Lofgren? Really? Besides playing in the E Street Band, would anyone be able to name one of HIS songs? If his royalties are more than $1000 per year I'd be surprised. They couldn't find more invisible artists to boycott Spotify? Hell, taking his music down might cost Spotify a nickel.
I don't follow Joe Rogan and I didn't listen to the podcast(s) in question but I have heard of the doctors he interviewed, both of whom have very impressive credentials. Are they right? Hell, who knows at this point? But, shouldn't intelligent, credentialed individuals be given the right to express their opinion, especially since it's being presented as just that - their opinion? I find it curious that 60s generation celebrities are okay with censorship.
If Young doesn't want his music on Spotify, then fine, take it down. But to try to strong arm some company into censorship just seems wrong on a lot of levels.
If I've learned anything in 58+ years (and that's debatable, of course), it's when an individual or entity will not even listen to opposing views that I suspect that individual is blatantly wrong and knows it or is just plain ignorant and doesn't want to admit it.
