Quay is running with the 1st team DTs. Not sure that means a tremendous amount, but it sounds like he's out of the dog house for the time being.

That's certainly making me feel better about quay especially when he wasn't on spring depth chart

That's a good damn question. It really sucks we don't have a true beat writer during spring practices, no way I'm following talty. And I think it great news that quays with the 1st team. At least it shows that Collins won't be playing lesser talented seniors over people. Other than Cox and chappelle did we have any other early enrollees?

after rewatching several games this weekend it became

apparent he was a better player for the position than Cherrington

I believe Samuel (TE) & Coman (safety) are enrolled. No actual highschool guys enrolled early.

What stood out to me from watching Friday's Practice...

Brandon Holloway will shock a lot this season, he showed good hands where Joe dropped a easy catch. But the biggest thing I saw was Richie Brown, if he isnt starting by half way through the season, Mullen is a fool. He got an INT and it looked like something out of a video game.

I would, for once, like to be pleasantly surprised by our wide receivers. And for the life of me I don't understand receivers that can't catch the ******* ball. You have ONE job.

It's looking more and more like Morrow is the latest in a very, very long line of over-hyped MSU WRs. Considering our abundance of 5'9" midget WRs last season, you think he could've at least been good enough to play in the redzone at 6'4". But he couldn't even do that much.

And isn't catching the ball pretty much the only requirement for a WR?

Morrow is a RS-FR at the moment. No need to bury the guy just yet. But I do wonder about your red zone statement. Would we have called a corresponding play?

State's completion percentage rose dramatically when they limited the rotations. (add to that the hiring of a WR position coach with actual passing game experience).

Over-hyped WRs or Disappointing QBs? TR will get them the ball. We will find 4 WRs/TEs/RBs/QBs/FSs/LBs/LSs who can catch it.

I wanna see us target Malcolm Johnson more this year. I also wanna see us use Perkins more in the passing game. Perkins is more dangerous receiving than rushing IMO

He's only a RS-FR, but he hasn't had to compete against anybody. Surely if he had shown some potential we'd have at least tried to get some production out of him this past year.If he could not get on the field last year, even if he has plenty of time to get better and likely will get better, I'm not optimistic that that will translate into him actually being good.

So we just kicked Heavens to the curb because he quit showing potential? Outside of RBs and TEs only three people have been the main WRs the past three seasons. In 2013 we are not only replacing three seniors but also three 3-year starters. So, in 2013 you can say that Morrow will not have had to compete against anyone.

If I could watch spring practice & report on it...

..the primary thing I would be looking for is this: Has our defense returned to hitting people? Last year, MSU's defense, generally speaking, avoided contact. That crap has to change. Even Croom's worst teams still offered a defense that would hit people. Jackie forged his MSU legacy on one thing specifically: His defenses were comprised of headhunters. I realize Mullen comes from Florida where defense will always take a backseat to offense, but Mullen needs to understand he can not come to MSU & suddenly out run & out flash SEC opponents when he has the ball. MSU never has been nor never will be the school for that. At MSU, you win games by knocking the **** out of people. I hope that is returning this spring.
