Dudley Dawson....

I'm surprised Robert Carradine is a jerk.
I was rather surprised.

On the other hand, I met Amanda Bearse (Marcy from Married with Children for you heathens out there) and said I loved that show when I was a kid. Admittedly I was probably too young to really enjoy that show when it came out. She just went "well then you must have had some really awesome parents if you watched it when you were a kid"

Indeed I did Marcy :)

I’m not sure what you expected. He never claimed to be the people he wrote about who were based on character types he knew. He never had a job in his life other than playing in bands.

As far as his authenticity, he is supposed to be a super regular guy, visible around town, at the beach, and so forth. There are probably not more down to earth rock stars than him. But, no, he was not a car mechanic or union factory worker.
I think you missed my point. I appreciate songs that are personal or inspired by personal experiences. I don't really appreciate songs that were obviously written with producing a hit single in mind. My point is that when he wrote Glory Days, for example, the writing clearly demonstrated he didn't know the subject in any intimate way. I think some of his music has a depth to it and clearly reflects his experiences or things he knows or feels. That song, and others like it, were clearly him sitting down and trying to put together a song that would sell well. That whole album, in my opinion, was a conscience marketing effort to sell records as opposed to writing based on inspiration and experiences. He doesn't have to be a car mechanic or factory worker to have known people who were and to have been around them enough to relate to how they lived and problems that confronted them. As someone who played a lot of baseball when I was younger, Glory Days was embarrassing to listen to because he clearly is not a baseball fan, never played the game, and can't really relate to the subject matter in a meaningful way. The song was purely created to sell records. I'm not trashing him for that. A lot of artists write songs for the purpose of trying to create a hit record. I just prefer artists whose lyrics and songs are more inspired and relatable to those whose sole reason for writing the song is how marketable it is. Bruce has done some of both.

I haven't met a ton, but of all the people I've met that were 'famous' the only ones that were really douchey were that band Over the Rhine from Cincinnati. They had a total "Do you know who we are?!" vibe and I so badly wanted to say "well no not really" but I wanted to keep my job
Forgettable. At the last Tall Stacks we left their show early to get up close for Delbert McClinton.

Again...incorrect. His best songwriting outside of BtR and Darkness, was on The Rising, and again of late w/ Western Stars and his most recent album last year w/ the EStB, (Letter to You) which is fantastic.

His "height" has never waned, as evident by all of his tours/works from 2012 to his unbelievable Broadway run. You are too focused on his "hits" that received air time instead of his body of work. He is probably more popular now than at any time since Born in the USA. His tour next year will be ridiculous.

I am biased, as evident by the # of times I have seen him and having studied his music for many, many years. I don't like his politics, but he is arguably the best singer/songwriter ever, and his live performances speak for themselves.

Saw in a while back in Charlotte, show was 3 hours long. He left out many original songs I wanted to hear and sang a bunch of covers like Louie Louie, which was terrible, still can’t get figure out that mess of a set list.

Already confessed to being a Boss fan, that being said, have always hated "Glory Days", way overplayed and not nearly as good as several others on the Born in the USA album, e.g., Downbound Train and I'm on Fire

Loved the song Born in the USA when it first came out, and still think it is one of his best, but like so many other classic rock songs, has been flogged to death on the radio about a billion times that I simply cannot listen to it anymore

Sort of like if I never hear either version of Layla ever again, I will die a happy man

Yep...

From 2011 - Feb 2020....78 concerts (66 different artists) and that includes everything from Yo-Yo Ma to Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center to Chris Tomlin to Metallica to essentially every genre out there. Just picked it back up last month with Clapton, and Stapleton in Nashville last weekend.
I have FORGOTTEN more about music than you have learned/experienced in your entire life. That isn't a brag, that is a guarantee.

I'm not a huge fan, but there's a boot floating around out there from 1978 IIRC: Live at The Agora (Cleveland).

I heard this on the old King Biscuit Flower Hour on WEBN back in 79 0r 80... I remember being mighty impressed by it.

Mellencamp... I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus blows this away.
Hell, the apes grunting in 2001: A Space Odyssey blows it away.

Bruce isn't for everyone, and generally his catalog is too extensive for people like Chester and Mav to comprehend. Shallow minds have issues w/ him and others who push the envelope in their writings. However, given his accomplishments that have lasted decades, it is pretty stupid to discount him as anything but iconic.

I don't like or listen to many artists, but I will give them a chance and find out what their back story is before I make my decision. I am positive that I have listened to a bigger variety of artists than anyone on here, especially live.

To each their own.

Maybe i haven't paid enough attention, but Bruce pushing the envelope?

I've gone from Caedmon's Call to WinterJam (not sure of all the artists there) to the Gaither Homecoming Tour to John Mayer to The Black Crowes to ZZ Top to Metallica to Slayer to Cannibal Corpse to Unmerciful, Black Label Society and Obituary in the last month or so.

Seen acts in venues as varied as Cincinnati Christian University's auditorium to Bogart's in Cincy and Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago to Ruoff Music Center (don't remember it being called that when i was there) in Indy and Riverbend in Cincinnati to the RCA Dome and Thomson-Boling Arena.

And, i will say that there was not one act i would have traded out and replaced with Bruce.

Oh good God, just shoot me now, right between the eyes please. I think it is safe to say we have different tastes in music.

But hey, that is part of what makes the world go round . . .

We didn’t start the fire and piano man suck ***. There, I said it.

Piano Man is another song that if I never hear again, will die a happy man, plus Only the Good Die Young

Never liked the guy to begin with, even when he was popular, just thought he was a over hyped lounge singer

Good point...it generally isn't worth it when you have to point out someone's horrible taste ;)
