Robinson basically took his job at the end of the season, and he's just a luxury we can't afford right now. As the season went on and we started pounding the ball down the middle with success with an undrafted rookie shining in a hybrid role I kind of saw this coming. I have no doubts we would have kept him if he was 100%, but he's not... And we REALLY needed a DB.
The 2nd part of that question: Pierre is the most underrated back in the NFL in every category. You'd be hard pressed to find a better back at picking up the blitz, he's a consistent 3+ YPC up the middle guy, and he is above average at doing the exact same thing Sproles did. Before we acquired Sproles he was tops of the league in catches. He's going to swap spots with Ingram as far as starting, but he's a veteran presence in a backfield for two guys on rookie contracts.
I think Steve Smith and Payton are buds, but he's possibly one of the most hated guys in Champions Square probably only behind Roddy White. Smith is taking his punk *** to Baltimore. We don't NEED any more receivers than the ones we have and the one we're going to draft. Lance got the boot because Stills surpassed expectations and took his job too (not to mention Meachem coming on the 2 half of the season). It's a good problem to have, but unfortunately for us the two guys who lost their jobs to rookies were fan favorites. No way Steve Smith would consider coming to NOLA to be 3rd or 4th in receptions (Graham, Colston, Stills). He'd be #1 in Baltimore.
