SPS Tickets for Charity part duex - Please read and respond

So our bowl game tickets for the Palmer Home was a pretty big hit. The kids at the Palmer Home had a great, great time and were very appreciative of our efforts.

With that said, I'm challenging SPS to take this to the next level for the 2014 season.

What say ye about purchasing them a set of season tickets? I called the Palmer Home this week and asked if they'd ever had season tickets donated and they haven't. They generally see tickets thrown their way at the last second by fans who can't make it, but never have they been given a set to distribute amongst themselves.

By my math, 6 season tickets will run $1,710 (assuming prices are the same as last year) and we raised exactly $1,700 in about week last year.

Is this something you'd be interested in donating for? My plan is to purchase 8 season tickets through my BDC account and donate 6 of the seats straight to the Palmer Home. I'll have to up my normal annual donation a little bit, but I'll gladly do so for this event.

Who's in? If there is enough interest, I will start collecting the cash soon.

And thanks for the idea on what to do with tickets for the games I may not be able to make. I got a feeling these kids are about to be flooded with tickets if only a handful of us start giving them our unused ones.

Let's hold off on any payments at this point. We've got plenty of time.

My main goal is to make sure I've got enough interest to cover all the fees associated with this. Once I get comfortable with the head count in this thread, I'll re-publish my paypal address and start the collection process.

THE GAUNTLET HAS BEEN THROWN DOWN AT SPS!!

Just got confirmation from a poster that they are willing to match the donations from SPS, dollar-for-dollar, up to $2,500.

With that note, I will begin the process of trying to plan and coordinate all of these activities together.

So is the Palmer Home going to have their own BDC account?

Or are you getting the points for all of this?

My goal is to run this out of my BDC account-

I currently donate $1000 per year, but will be upping that to accommodate the ticket purchases for the Palmer Home.

My plan is this:
1) To get 6 seasons tickets for the Palmer Home.
2) I'll use the money donated to cover the costs of the tickets (which I expect to be close to $1700).
3) Any extra money gather will then go to cover my BDC expenses above the $1000 that I donate. (In order to purchase 8 total tickets - 2 for me, 6 for Palmer Home, I need a minimum donation of $1600. If the money raised isn't enough to cover any of the BDC donation, I will cover that expense myself)
4) If we have money left over after the 6 tickets are purchased, we will try to find a way to stretch it into something more for the Palmer Home. Whether that's more season tickets, bowl tickets, MSU gear, etc.... will be determined based upon the final count of the money.

One quick note... when I state that I'm purchasing 8 tickets and donating 6 to the Palmer Home, I mean exactly that. The 2 tickets that I purchase for myself will be 100% covered by my own pocketbook. No donations will be used for my benefit in purchasing tickets that I plan to use. The only benefit I really get out of this is the BDC points that come along with purchasing tickets and raising my donation level.

Here's an example scenario to hopefully make sure no one is confused:
- Let's say that $1100 is donated during the fund raising. That means an anonymous poster is going to put in $1100 of his own raising the total $2200 to use.
- With $2200 donated, it would be spent as follows:
- 6 season tickets cost roughly $1710, leaving $490 left over.
- That $490 would be donated to the BDC club through my account, raising my annual donation from $1000 to $1490. I would still need $110 in order to get my BDC donations to a high enough level to purchase 8 tickets total and in this scenario, I would gladly cover this gap. Even if the gap is the entire $600, I would cover it gladly to make this happen.

That's how I plan to execute this.

FYI - I'm traveling today and won't be able to respond to any further inquiries until tomorrow.

So it appears that the new BDC rules for

ticket purchases really affects what I wanted to do here. I'm only going to be eligible to buy 4 tickets.

Therefore, this idea is on hold for the time being, atleast until I can try to figure something else out.

I'm open for suggestions.

Why not open up a BDC account for Palmer home...

...and order them that way?

By doing it through my account, it would give us a $1000 head start on donation level.

I have no problem with this going through your account, but I wonder if maybe the BDC might work with you either with the number of tickets or with the donation level if they knew what they were for. This may be naive on my part, but it seems worth asking them.

I'm assuming that you've been working on this online and if you've been talking to actual human beings about the tickets for your information so far and they know about the Palmer House already, please excuse me. But it seems like kind of a PR win for them as well in addition to the season ticket sales.

I've considered dropping a note to the athletic department, but haven't done that yet. I was hoping to avoid needing any outside help, but it appears the new BDC re-seating is going to throw this effort down a different path.
