an older friend of mine was an all sec lineman at vandy back

in those days. he was assigned to host spurrier when he came on his official visit to vandy. R.C. was taking him around giving him the grand tour and after a while spurrier looks at him and says, "can we just go somewhere and get a beer? there's no way in hell i'm coming to this place. i'm only hear cause my parents said i had to as a courtesy". leopard hasn't changed his spots. says what he thinks.

That's great. I couldn't stand him at Florida, but now he's one of my favorite football personalities.

as a kid growing up in Florida , i was a Gator fan

and listened to their games each week on the radio. Spurrier was the qb and I believe his favorite wr was Carlos Alvarez. Really good qb what i remember.

Have always been a fan of his... and wonder what could have been if LT had thrown the bank at Spurrier( who i believe was post Florida and pre South Carolina)instead of his appeasement of the NCAA which Mullen's predecessor. Spurrier was a name and draws recruits. Tho he may never have wanted to live in StarkVegas......

I couldn't agree more. I was in high school for the most part, when he was at Florida, and I couldn't stand the guy. But he easily is one of my favorite personalities in the game. Maybe he's an acquired taste, or maybe losing at Washington and seeing him not pull punches about his failure endeared me to the guy. But I'm a fan, and he makes me laugh.

ETA: SEC media days are infinitely better when the team he coaches is expected to compete....
