Really disappointed for Spencer, I'll temper my expectations that he will ever win a World or Olympics now until he actually does because I'm not sure he'll ever be a bigger favorite than this year. I guess him as the underdog and lower seed always seemed to bring out the best in him. Wish he hadn't given away the exposure when the other guy was on the shot clock, that was an unforced error and there was no signs of the other guy's offense until after he went up 2-1. That gave him a lot of confidence and then he shot in for the easy push out and knew that he could be more aggressive. I'd still take Spencer if they wrestle again, really wish he'd have gotten another couple matches for bronze just to see how he responds.

When do any coaches at Iowa have to be held accountable??
Should have happened when ISU got the 4th place trophy by a point or so a couple of years ago. People tried dismissing it at the time thinking only top 3 would get trophies (walked back) but that was the moment imo.

Hard to hold freestyle failure against their position as Iowa HC though at the same time though

Did DD even train Spencer ? Every video was the fearless meathead leader Tommy. He f****** has ruined a multi generational talent I don’t give a s*** if he has had multiple injuries or not
Didn't Spencer Lee wrestle in the Olympic Finals just last year with his multiple injuries? That doesn't scream "ruined" to me, but uuummmm.

Lincoln Mcllravy was a generational talent too, apparently "ruined" by Dan Gable. So we know it happens. 😂

Disappointed for Spencer, but I'm gonna wake up and see the sun shine again tomorrow, probably will for you too if you let it............

I get what you’re saying I do. But, tom and Terry are beyond defending at this point. They have essentially destroyed the greatest college athletics dynasty ever.

I sent an email request to cancel my inner circle membership this morning. Until they change the Hawkeye wrestling club coach I’m done donating. Too much secrecy and too much loyalty to nice guys that are not getting it done.

I’ve cancelled my inner circle until they make serious club level changes

When you base your senior level presence on one guy, in an era where senior level success is the driver of recruiting success, you cannot afford for that guy to lay an egg.

This is not a critique of Spencer. This is a critique of Tom’s inability to understand the modern wrestling landscape. Spencer shouldn’t be carrying the HWC on his shoulders.

^Spencer was exhausted after the first 38 sec and that first exchange. If you watch his knees they start to lock out when he gets in his stance and he tries posting with a straight left hand. You can see in his knees/legs and his lack of hand fighting he was done.

There is a difference when Spencer hand fights to score and when he hand fights to survive, and from that point his whole attack changed.

I don't think anyone doubts Spencer's ability, but it is a shame that his conditioning/weight cut keep him from wrestling/attacking for a full 6 minutes.

As a fan this has always been disappointing.
Announcers were concerned the taller guy cutting from 61 would be gassed. Is it the weight cut. He’s so short, but I do remember him saying he had to be up all night on a treadmill to make weight for one of his matches at the Olympics. I don’t think he has the length to move up to 61 or 65. Is there any technique changes that could make a big difference? What partners would he have at okyst or PSU that would get him over the top, who aren’t competing for the same spot on the world and Olympic teams? Does anyone think he throws in the towel after this big disappointment, or does his obsession with Olympic gold keep him going 3 more years?

Well good thing is my Pearl Vision stock is going to go up. It might be time for him to move on to the next chapter of his life. Maybe coaching

Forrest bronze match up now.

Slideby td Jax 2-0. Td Kaz 2-2. Wow, Forrest hits a 4pt on a slideby 6-2. Stepout for Kaz 6-3. Break

Td Jax 8-3. Td Kaz 8-5. 1 min left. Trade exposures? 10-7. challenge. They go 4 Kaz, 8-9. C+1 on KAZ 9-9. Jax has criteria. 3 sec.

Scratch that, C+1 removed after challenge. Jax loses 8-9. YOLO challenge from Jax corner. 8-10 after failed challenge.

Bummer

He'll be 27 next month. I can't imagine him throwing in the towel with the Olympics on American soil in 2028.

But if he struggles between now and then, he'll likely be the first to know it's time to move on with his life. Been a hell of a ride regardless how it ends.

Can you elaborate on what weight cut he is making?

Man, for a guy who's motto is "Excuses are for wusses" you people sure make an awful lot for him. It's his coaches fault, it's his partners' fault, he had a hard cut blah blah blah. Spencer is a world class athlete and always shoulders the blame and credits his competitors. Maybe follow his lead instead calling for everything to be burned down. Everyone loses in life, no one is undefeated.

Americans biggest weakness is overthinking everything. At the end of the day it's just wrestling. Does anyone think the north Korean has world class training partners or an awesome rtc? North Korea is one of the poorest nations in the world. Gtfoh

North Korean wrestlers are literally wrestling for their lives and family's lives. That kind of motivation makes up for lack of training partners.

Spencer carried the Hawks program the entire time he competed for Iowa, imo. We became complacent with the team floundering as long as SL gave us some bragging rights. Now what?

That is so true. He can judge his life by his disappointments or his successes. No one ever really reaches their goals. They always want one more.

He has inspired many, put the fear of God into more. And stayed classy the whole time. No reason to feel sorry for him. He has lived a life many of us would not be able to and accomplished more than most of us could ever hope to.

They have not destroyed it. They have simply maintained it. The problem is that others have passed them by. I can't help but think that their biggest faults are that they do not cheat, they are loyal, and they do the best they can all the time. Who would have thunk those would be faults and lead to the slipping of a program. In what other world would those things be a reason to condemn someone?

Zahid dominated his way to the title. Unscored on in the whole tournament I believe?

Two things.

1. That’s the worst Spencer has looked on the world stage. He got abused. I’m disappointed for him because I thought he had a strong shot to dominate the field.

2. Zahid’s results are strong recruiting material for DT and Okie State.
Didn't he quickly tech the Turkish wrestler in the match before his loss?
