What a match Trent Hidlay! Was down 10-2 after getting 4'd on two monster chest wrap counters by Gadzhi. Trent storms back, stays clear of that chest wrap, gets some TDs, and caps it with a huge 4-pointer to seal the deal. Hell yes, Trent Hidlay, world champion!! One of the most exciting matches I've seen in a long time.

Hard to believe the guy never won an NCAA Title....Does a win like this get him into the conversation for best ever not to win one?

Of course it does. Especially since he lost to a juiced Brooks.

Such a fun style to watch. I think you have to put him up there, among Fix, Gilman, Brandon Slay, KJ, Zeke Jones. Probably others I'm forgetting. Fix has to be the most heartbreaking, making the finals four times and never getting it done.

The wrestling community is full of a bunch of drama queens. People trying to build the narrative that Spencer should leave Iowa because he didn’t place at worlds this year. Where are these *** clowns for every other more accomplished guy who didn’t last year at the Olympics?

Honestly I love wrestling but I am getting to the point where I will just watch it when it’s on and stop paying attention to the social media content, podcasts, etc.

Has he or has he not had multiple injuries you stupid bastard?

I never implied that he was injured right now, but since your Mom didn't comprehend for you I guess it went over your head.

Get smarter or GTF off the internet moron.
Anyone who has a differing viewpoint or opinion is either a teenager or they are older and have lost their cognitive abilities....got it.

Disappointing for Lee but glad to see carr get pulled back in on the backside. He will still have his work cut out for him to medal
Love Lee!! He needs to work harder and get his head in the right mindset.…was projected to almost tech the field on his way to gold. He’s a beast and will figure it out even if it means training with some other talent.

I feel terrible for Spencer. I’ve thought he was the best wrestler in the world since his freshman year at Iowa. I still believe that when he is at his best, he is the best in the world.

This tournament was clearly not his best. Have no idea why that is, but have to wonder if he’s wrestling with a ton of pressure. He has his own personal expectations, and is one of the most hyped wrestlers of all times. Plus, like it or not, he is solely carrying the legacy of Iowa Wrestling on his shoulders. I don’t know whether or not the pressure got to him, but I can see that causing issues.

Hope he bounces back and gets a world title eventually. The good thing is I don’t see anyone beating him domestically for a couple of years. So as long as he stays healthy, he’ll get another shot.

Carr lost a very close one to Sidakov, finishes 5th.

Haines lost 3-2, takes silver.

Wasn't sure what to expect from either of them heading in. Levi had little/no international experience and Carr's weight was a meatgrinder. Impressive performance from both.
Happy Carr medaled. Seems like a decent guy and works hard. Only guy I know that can pretty much throw out the defense and take it to Messenbrenk.

Woods advances through repechage. Will wrestle (a very winnable match) for bronze.

USA locked up 2nd place in the team race(Iran 1st).

Maroulis advances to semis. Welker lost in qf. Kilty lost rd 1. Both could get pulled back in.

Jimenez was eliminated.

Spencer has had matches that were anomalous to the other matches around them (meaning whatever injured or recovery state he was in didn’t fully explain them). He just had one this week. That’s all. Maybe it’s an adrenaline dump thing - working extra hard early in these, and not being able to reset before the other guy seizes the chance. People have to resist connecting two data points out of a hundred and calling it a significant trend.

Im surprised no mention of RBY going further and almost beating guy that smoked SL? How close are rby vs sl?

They wrestled in February at the Zagreb Open, and Spencer won 6-3. Spencer was in control most of the match, but it was far from a beat down. RBY is a unique style matchup for Spencer, and he only seems to be improving in freestyle.

So. Now we are counting medical redshirt years? I know you want to be a douche but I can only let that go so far…
Whoa, I was just pointing out that he did wrestle for them that year, he was 3-0. ;)

If you want to stretch semantics to try to cloud an actually valid point, Spencer actually missed multiple semesters and wrestled the 1st half of his freshman season unattached.

So, he actually wrestled about 4 seasons and I am right back to half. Semantics…

Real Woods bronze medal match starting now

Not much action yet. CAN goes on clock. 1-0 Woods. Break

Woods on clock. Nothing. 1-1 CAN has criteria. CAN on clock. Nothing 2-1 Woods 50 sec. CAN in on a leg. Woods clears out. End. 2-1 Woods.

*challenge CAN for singlet pull. No singlet pull! 3-1 winner

Woods officially bronze medalist!

I was looking forward to a rematch. In their first meeting it was close, but if Spencer's first takedown had been five feet closer to the center, it'd have been 10-0 in the first. RBY lucked out that it was on the edge and only got turned once before going out of bounds. I'm sure they are bound to meet again at some point.

Snyder gold medal match now

Lots of rubbing foreheads and finger grabbing. 1-0 Snyder off shot clock. Break

Snyder little too aggressive on pushout attempt. Td IRI 1-2. Blood time. Just over 2min left. Snyder picks up pace. 130 to go. C+1 on IRI 2-2, IRI has criteria. Stepout for Snyder 3-2. IRI in on leg, Snyder defends. End 3-2 Snyder. IRI challenge. Challenge failed, Snyder 4-2 winner.

World champ!

Major respect and congrats to Real Woods! His run reminds me of Gilman's where he went through the last chance open and was down big in an early match there. So many successful 65s (not that the USA has had a lot) have been the 149s coming down as well.
There is so much depth internationally at this weight, but in the USA as well meaning his byes to the finals next year will be huge to avoid bad matchups.

Feel good for him.

Finally got around to watching Lee at worlds after almost a week unplugged... yikes that wasn't good.
He was the slower, weaker and less conditioned wrestler in that match and got dominated as a result.
Some people are going to freak out about this opinion but I think he's realizing his best days are behind him. He probably keeps grinding but to me that looked like a guy who just couldn't physically do what he wanted and that has to hurt. Given his injury history it's understandable but I just don't see him being able to make the physical gains he needs to get back on top. I hope I'm completely wrong but I think others see it too.
