My question is in a town the size of Union, why is there a West Union? Why not just merge the schools?

no idea.

BTW... Martinez pitched a complete game 2 hitter but St. Al did ten run rull them. So my question, why do they use the 10 run rule in the final series? You would think that the teams would be fairly well matched up so that it wouldn't get too out of control and in high school a bunch of runs can be scored in a hurry by the team that is down.

I think they have that rule throughout the entire season.

There are probably several reasons for it. Like, trying to save arms, trying to save time so that the kids can get home and get to bed so they can go to school, since higher scoring games typically take longer to get played, and of course, to not embarass an inferior opponent.

And by the way, I have no problem embarassing an inferior opponent.

But maybe they do need to revisit the rule for the playoffs.

but revisting it for playoffs seems at least somewhat logical. don't get me wrong, i am glad that St. Al was able to get out of their in 5 innings but it just seems strange not to allow the state championship series to go full length regardless of the score.

Town of Union is 15 miles south of Philadelphia. Union County is New Albany area.
If there was a West Union near the town of Union, we'd call it Sebastopol (a.k.a The Nasty Hole).
Actually, there used to be another West Union between Crystal Springs and Mendenhall. Long since closed.

which is also 1A, I believe. So you have two 1A schools in the same town. I'm not sure if East Union is near Myrtle or on the other side of the county.

West Union in on Hwy 30 between New Albany and Oxford, just has Myrtle address, 4 county school, West, East, Myrtle and Ingomar. My kids go to West Union and would not trade for any other school. BTW, Ashley Russell is our coach, never been past the first round, had been in playoffs all 3 years he has been there, and played for state title this year. I think they did pretty well.

Ha- we always thought St. Al was a bigger rival than Cathedral. And Roy Garcia is the only thing that holds me back from despising them.

Congrats to St. Al- wow, that hurts to say.
