Is this the game of the week? Will Batavia be able to exact a modicum of revenge for their only loss last season? Or does St. Charles N continue where they left off, as conference champs?

I went with SCN as I need to catch up in the Clown's Cup standings, but can they spring the upset?

So the Saints have played (and lost to) both teams. They are both well balanced, talented and well coached.

Here's why Batavia wins a close game:

1) They are at home and that does yield a slight advantage in close games.
2) They can pound the football with really big athletic players like Weerts, Urweiler and Jansey for five to 7 yards a crack and once you sellout to stop that, Taylor runs like the wind to the outside and gashes you for 40 yards. North has DeMarco and that's really it for their running game (except when they go wildcat to Nubin which is telegraphed and Batavia will have a plan for that).
3) Both teams can throw the ball but Batavia has a slightly better defense. They will take away the run and force North to throw way more than they want to.

This game should be good, surprised by the lack of interest.. I guess it's not a zip code catholic school game, Naperville area school or anything east of 59 but I digress..
One thing, North players tend to be like their coaches punkish, arrogant and chippy.. Batavia players are like their coaches, smart, hardworking and humble..

I disagree Mac, that Batavia's defense is just a little better but hey, that's why they play the game..

I haven't seen those type of activities from North players the two times I saw them. Will Nubin be the best player on the field or does Batavia have someone better? I think it's the LB receiving the lions share of the accolades?

I was surprised at the score to the SCN/SCE game and it made me think the N'Stars have a chance in this one.

Are there any schools in the Dukane, other than Batavia, who do not rub you the wrong way? Seems like from Geneva to the St. Charles schools to WWS etc., you have issues with the schools, coaches and/or fans.

My opinions are mine and mine.. Just going off of what I hear and see the last 4 to 5 years..

Nubin is great no doubt, might be..offensively anyway..

So, that game was tied at 7 - 7 until the very end of the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter was a disaster for STCE and I am holding back on blasting the responsible party for that.

The bottom line is that STCE is 4 - 3 regardless of any reasons or excuses so I'm not going to waste my time trying to justify their losses. I'm just going to show up and cheer and let the players play and the coaches coach.

STCN is the only team I actively root against. For me, it's mostly because of their fans (parents) although I will say that I have seen first hand the cocky, arrogant and obnoxious behavior of certain players last year. There is one in particular that I will not name but he graduated last year.

Yup. Cracked my friend’s son’s fibula two years ago on a cheap shot across the field from the play. I think we here in the Tri-Cities know exactly who you mean. Good riddance.

I was at STE/STN and actually came out more impressed with east.

They will be a tough out for someone in the first round. BJ crossen runs the triple option better than anyone I can remember.

North will come down to their QB performance. They have good receivers but haven’t been able to get them the ball.

I think we can all agree that the most important aspect of this matchup is the impact it has on the drive to win the Clown Cup! Oh and I guess the Dukane conference championship would fall into the priority list somewhere.

This is the young mans father who made the block. First I think it is bad form to throw a 17 or 18 year old boy under the bus when you do not have the facts. The facts are it was a clean block necessary to spring the punt returner. It was a good play by a good football player. No flags because the play was clean and legal. In fact, if you watch the film, which you clearly didn't, the Geneva player was hurt landing on his own player, not from the hit. It is always unfortunate when a player gets hurt but it is part of the sport. Don't bother responding to this because I am deactivating my account. However, instead of anonymously hiding behind a handle, I would rather have a mature adult conversation. If you were careless enough to post a lie, the least you could do is own up to it. If you are interested please call me at 312-504-7705. I hope to hear from you but typically in these situations the bully tends to cower under the real and genuine circumstances.

Speak not what you know nothing about. You and all of SCE is just upset because SCN has owned you the last couple of years - pure and simple. It is classless to bring a 17 or 18 year old into it because the adult is to immature to deal with it. Looking forward to taking in the near future.

I’ll stand by what I said. I saw it with my own eyes on multiple occasions. You just outed yourself and your son by coming on here and trying to intimidate. If you had put as much energy into teaching good sportsmanship and respect for opponents as you do trying to defend bad behavior, you probably wouldn’t have to be in this position in the first place. Unreal.

Friendly advice. Kids read this board and the last thing you need is a teenager giving out your number to a thousand kids!

Don't think STN know's good sportsmanship.. Coaches and players throwin F bombs as 40+parents(senior night) walk by and hearing 'punch em in the face" coming from the stands during the game..

What really gets me is their baseball coach let's his players scream and yell as the pitcher throw's the ball.. They are the only team that does this.. East does not do this and have my respect because they win with class..

For all and just for the record....

I'm not trying to get into a pissing contest with anyone. I didn't mention anyone by name nor did I describe any detailed situation. Most of the posts on here are people's opinions and you can take them for what they are worth.

I have my own reasons for feeling the way I do and I don't pretend that my viewpoint is flawless. I acknowledge that opinions are subjective and based on one's personal experiences. Not everyone will agree and that's OK. Two people will watch the exact same event and come away with a different perspective.

Part of the fun of this board is hearing different points of view. I will always try to be respectful if I disagree.

I feel I need to comment here as a former Fox Valley resident who is well connected with many around both programs.

1) SCN as a school still has a major chip of its shoulders as the "second" school in town, despite a much better recent record in most sports

2) #1 is amplifield by SCN reputation as the "rich" school; many fewer low-income student and much more white. This drives a rumor of being "soft"

3) SCN's booster organization is completely out of control and driving too many athletic decisions. I personally know 2 folks who coached at the varsity level who have recently left coaching at North because they didn't want to deal with the booster.

All three of these drive SCN's rep across the area as a disliked team. (the Duke or Notre Dame if you will). Is it fair? Maybe, maybe not. Some of their teams play chippier than other. probably, especially in football, baseball and lacrosse.

In fact, I would argue most of the bad blood between SCN and SCE probably comes more than lacrosse than football.

Just my 2 cents.
