I was listening to a podcast with @Souc and he along with the co-host warned that this game is treacherous for The Beloved. I agree. The North Stars are the returning 7A runner-ups and not to mention 4A runners-up in baseball, in case you were questioning their athleticism. Simply stated, these kids are on a streak and are enfuego right now.

Friday night they handled a very tough 8A Palatine program that was looking to make waves of their own and what better way to do that than knocking off the AP #4 in 7A, even higher ranked in @EdgyTim 7A and in his top 10 Chicagoland rankings, and Souc ranked #15 in the state? No better way exists. And despite having that target painted on their backs the North Stars simply deliver.

According to Coach Pomazak in the DH, "this team is big up front, athletic on the perimeter and we have a super great defense." He also explains that returning QB is lightyears ahead of where he was last season and that this is the best RB bunch they've had in a while. The D returns it's leading tackler on the LB corps in addition to a physical presence on the DL.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the ledger there are questions that need answering, answers that still linger after a disappointing rd 1 playoff loss in '18 and week 1 game against an outmanned opponent. Who replaces Q. Pringle at RB who was essentially the Raider offense last season? How do we replace CB Cam Mitchell who essentially was the defense? How do we stop a team, a program whose trajectory appears to aiming straight up after a DuKane championship two years ago, and playing for the State's highest prize last season? On the road in the not so friendly confines of the Northern side of St. Charles...

I don't know...

Bones. You’re a huge sandbagger but I’m with you on this one.

They are huge up front on both sides of the ball. Size wise they remind me of a typical Loyola team. They run outside zone really well with number 1 and number 8. Both of those guys play both ways. I thought 8, Fortney, was the best player on the field against Palatine, specifically on defense. He plays olb and basically shut down the run to his side of the ball. On offense he runs very hard. Not blazing speed but fast enough.

If they have a weakness it’s the secondary and receivers. You can exploit them with the pass.

And sadly we're not known for passing.

SCN's strength by far is pass rush and Furtney their likely all-state LB.

They do have a tendancy to overpursue so there needs to be a lot of misdirection mixed in.

For them, the challenge will be, can they score enough points? Last year for the last 3 rounds of playoffs, the wildcat was the only thing that really moved the ball for them. They don't have a receiver who can get open consistancy. The game plan against them needs to be put 8 in the box and make them beat you deep.

Agree they should be a top 15 team, but they aren't close to the best team in their conference.

If they played Batavia today, I'd make Batavia a 10-14 point favorite.

Bones, I have your boys beating the STCN. They gave up 14 to palatine. The Pirates are at least a year away from doing anything. I love the Pirates but they are young and fairly small and gave the North Stars a game.

But Batavia has literal giants on their team, at least three from what I saw. They also have Urwiler who has got to be pound for pound one of the top football players in the state. They played neck and neck with ESL for about 3 qtrs after falling behind early.

What chance do Raiders have given no giants on the roster and no Urwiler. I know the kids will continue to work hard, but it'd be silly of me to suggest the SCN kids aren't doing the same.

Simply an eye-opener for the N'stars. Let them know to get serious.

Top 10 vs unranked. The makings of a debacle.

The Stars are 0-2 against the Brook the past two seasons. I’ll take the Brook again. SCN is not a top 5 team in IL.

Minor hiccups. SCN has proven their position by winning the DuKane the 1st year and making it to the 7A championship game the 2nd year.

The Pirates are young and small, but SCNs linemen were HUGE! That was the difference in the game IMO. Palatine's best returning DL has been in a soft cast since the scrimmage, and another of the DLs was on crutches by halftime. Their size wore Palatine's line down and they were able to run at will in the second half. Their QB misfired alot, but made a big pass when he needed to late in the game. That's a really good team that will wear down alot of opponents.

Never seen 8 run ball from scrimmage

If we didn’t have Aaron Bailey we don’t win a championship. And that’s a fact.
Likely. But if we don't have that defense, they also don't win. I was actually talking to a MS guy this weekend at GBW who credited the DB's. I didn't bring it up, he did. But all that is beyond the point.

Morrison went on to do it at the highest level in college and then beyond. Next you'll be telling me Quincy is better than Tuf.

No. Tuf is going to have a big year.

I agree with your assessment of palatine. I do believe they will make a run next year. I need to see more from the North Stars to put them at #2 before my Ramblers and the Roadrunners.

Without Bailey, The Brook loses to Mount Carmel in the second round. Hell, NV gave Bolingbrook a game in the first round that year. NV almost beat the Brook. It was a close one.

The Brook also won because of their secondary that year. That may have been one of the top best secondary’s in the state ever.

So, no one is naming a team that won state without their best player other than 'Brook 2011? Perhaps someone can make a thread about it, this one is about how good St. Charles North is...

Not as big size wise yet as older bro ( 5'10 180 or so) but some have said more athletic at this stage in their careers

Often times the younger brother is better earlier because they learned from the bigger bros. So SCN has the new and improved Nubin...

In my many moons of watching MC Football I never saw a player single handily beat MC the way Tyler Nubin did last year. Yes I know other peices fell into place and MC shot them selves in the foot a few key times, but he took that game over every time he touched the ball. The kid will be forever known among MC fans. It’s like Seinfeld saying “NEWMAN” but we say “NUBIN”

After much deliberation, I have come to the opinion that The Brook will spring the massive upset and walk away 2-0.
