. . . . I believe is taking place in late August of 2016. Obviously, it's way too early, but any initial on the 2016 Shamrock version would be greatly appreciated. They contending next year for the ESCC crown?

I think Rita will be a game or two better than this past year's version. Interesting, as stated by tomloner, a lot of underclassmen played in several games for SR this year. If the sophomore QB can develop his passing game, I think things are looking upward for the Mustang

A lot of starters coming back for the Shamrocks. Decent sophomore class moving up minus a good QB . The probable starting QB is solid and has seen a bit of varsity action. He will have a lot of skill position talent to help him: small talented halfback, very good tight end, and a possible difference making receiver. The defense brings back some decent players and should be better than last years group. The Shamrocks should give St Rita a game IMO. I think they are a playoff level team.

It was said that nobody tried to stop him from transferring. Could lead one to think either hes bad discipline-wise or bad performance-wise.

hmmmm, there could be , possibly , another dozen reasons why the kid is supposedly transferring. And just imagine if other forces were at fault or it was just a mutual understanding. I wonder if thats possible ?

Did anyone else ever hear whispers of Pat's discontent in the ESCC?
Not saying they don't exist, but I haven't heard any whispers. Honestly, I don't hear many complaints from ESCC member schools other than travel complaints. I do however hear/read many rumors of discontent within the CCL. Why is that?

Perhaps because it's a tough conference - 3 more state championships in football to the mantle. It's also widely considered the best in the state. But hey ESCC is pretty good too

Or perhaps it's the attitude displayed in your above post. Perhaps chest-thumping plays well when it's manifested on an inter-conference basis, but not so much intra-conference? Just a thought from an outsider, who doesn't understand the CCL mindset.

Well is it really that different than being let's say Viator having to play 7 other ESCC teams each year?

That 88 SR v St. Pats game was a classic. SR was very fortunate to win that one.

I was fortunate to be at that game at venerable Hanson Stadium on a cold Wednesday night (bring it back already). I believe the score was 15 - 14, as Brian Hamilton stopped the Shamrock RB from scoring on a potential game-winning two-point conversation. Stormed the field after that, catapulted Rita with impressive victories vs. Ram and at Evanston.

Thanks for the scouting report. Are Shamrock's lines of scrimmage usually big? I think it'll be a good game as well. I know I said SR should be better next year, but who the hell knows at this point. I am assuming the Mustangs will struggle against the rest of the Blue, so they need to win all of their non-conference games to be on the safe side.

I'm pretty sure 3 of the offensive linemen are back and had good size. The defensive line I can't remember. The tight end is a good sized kid, real good athlete and I'm sure will play both ways.
Struggling in the blue still leaves Rita a minimum 10 pt favorite over the ESCC minus a team or two. I hate predictions but I say SR wins this one but I say Pats makes you work for it. They usually do.

If you watch SR's 7-6 loss to MC replay on the cube almost everyone to touched the ball on the offensive side was and underclassman. Freshmen and sophomores were both 7-2. The two sophomore losses were by a combined 7 points. New freshman coaching staff. They may be a shade better than most are giving them credit.

great memory. And exactly right. After that game, they played 11 consecutive quarters of excellent football until the 4th quarter of the semi game vs MC.

If my memory serves me correct again, I could've sworn the long distance FG kicker kicked a 45 - 50 yarder that helped the cause; I believe it was his first attempt of the year: BC. Yes, until that damn Q4 with a 7 - 6 lead in the mud.

Tom, I watched a little of that game against MC and noticed that, too. In fact, I believe a Freshmen scored Rita's only TD. I think both you and I thought this past year's version of the Mustangs would go 6 - 3 or, at the very least, 5 - 4, and we were both wrong. I certainly hope you're correct about the future. If the lines of scrimmages are not as efficient, then there will be no playoffs. I heard good things about some of those Freshmen coaches.

I know frosh standings went:
BR 9-0/ 4-0
LA 8-1/ 3-1
MC 6-3/ 2-2
SR 6-3/1-3
PC 0-4 not sure overall

Soph I personally don't put much stock in it. MC went 5-4 but had Alek Thomas, Griffith, Brown and 2 others up.

Regarding the Frosh's standings, it's the 1 - 3 record against the Blue that is concerning to me. That tells me SR should schedule tomato cans in Weeks 1 & 2 for the 2018 season. Just get into the playoffs.

I am not sure who MC has week 2. Wouldn't mind another game like Taft. Need to get in.

Rita I heard plays Larry in a cross so what we know SR slate:
Shamrock
Viking
MC
PC
BR
Rambler

for some reason I think Laurence beat SR in 87. I went to a few games that year, and remember it being a disappointing season (including losing to East Moline at home) except for the 14-7 win over MC at 'The Pit', a game in which MC outplayed SR.

You are correct! Rita started the year 0 - 3 with non-conference losses to East Moline and Elgin. We had a Pep rally in which Coach W. Urchak went on stage and, let's put it this way, pumped up the student body. SR went on a 5 game winning streak, including the MC game. I believe teams had to have 6 wins to get to the playoffs. And that's when Larry narrowly beat SR at Rita, denying the Mustangs.

This past year's Sophomores for SR did not have a good season as Freshmen; I'm hoping this solid sophomore season carries over to the next two years.

For me its Laurence with everyone back that Rita has to beat. Lose that game I am not seeing playoffs.
