Thanks guys.I forgot to mention something. When I was bragging in the Prep Bowl & a few people let me know they wanted it gone.I talked with a CPS high up & he said if that ever happens he will allow all eligible Inner City & Chicago Conference teams to play in the state playoffs which would knock out many 5-4 teams
Interesting. I know there's the annual discussion discussion about the private schools all just breaking off, but it's usually concluded to be not feasible. Has it ever been suggested about using the prep bowl as a model with the privates breaking off with CPS (any other publics can break off if they wish). Two classes with boundaried CPS and the smallest privates and then a large class with the larger privates and unboundaried CPS schools. Large enough to be sustainable an diverse enough to meet diverse member needs.
Can I ask a question: Why can't we just get rid of the Prep Bowl? Isn't this idea of a NIT style tourney obsolete? Obviously I would imagine the CCL would want to keep this as long as possible but honestly does anyone care anymore about the Prep Bowl? And I'm just asking an honest question to all the CCL guys (and CPS guys for that matter)?
Some schools like Providence choose not to play but you are correct the rule states only schools that were members of the CCL before a certain time period are eligible (mostly those traditional CCL schools in the city limits and the other charter schools like Loyola, Fenwick, and St. Laurence. I think this goes back to years ago when they had the merger of the ESSC and CCL for football. Some schools like Carmel and Marian Catholic kept playing in the Prep Bowl playoffs and the public schools in their area threw a fit with the IHSA saying not only are these schools recruiting they are now getting extra practices.Love the Prep Bowl.Just disagree that some teams in the CCL & CPS aren't allowed a chance. That is like saying Rutgers and Maryland can play in the Big 10(13) but you're not allowed to win or play for a conference championship.
True but again each & every school can practice up until the day of the 5,6,7 and 8 A finals. If they chose not to then that is on themSome schools like Providence choose not to play but you are correct the rule states only schools that were members of the CCL before a certain time period are eligible (mostly those traditional CCL schools in the city limits and the other charter schools like Loyola, Fenwick, and St. Laurence. Also 5-4 teams with enough playoff points would too.You beat me to the punch.Look at the amount of teams knocked out who are small schools.that would change the fact of the classification of manyEarlier in the thread, you read that without the Prep Bowl, ALL CPL teams with records of 6-3 or better will qualify for the playoffs, and be allowed to participate in them. Your negative reaction to that was quite visceral.
Now you are asking why we don't get rid of the Prep Bowl. If you don't want ALL CPL teams eligible to qualify and compete in the playoffs, why would you want to do away with the one thing that is keeping that from happening?
Noble/UIC is a school of 864 students that finished the season at 6-3 this year, but the CPL keeps them from being eligible for the playoffs. One of their losses was by a score of 73-0 against Woodstock North, a school of 900 students that finished the year at 4-5. Imagine Noble/UIC against JCA in round one of 5A.
Is the prohibition of the SCC-4 (MCHS, SF, Marm, AC) from the Prep Bowl playoffs "permanent" or for a x-year period? What if Montini (for ex.) had a handful of players from Austin/North Lawndale? I think that would be the only allowance I could see, besides that of Marist or St. Pats (or close-in schools like Naz, ND, Guerin with possible City of Chicago representation). Some schools like Providence choose not to play but you are correct the rule states only schools that were members of the CCL before a certain time period are eligible (mostly those traditional CCL schools in the city limits and the other charter schools like Loyola, Fenwick, and St. Laurence. Just for kicks on my day off(my first in 3 weeks!!!) I thought I'd post with All Inner City & Chicago Conference teams eligible who would be in the State Playoffs and who would be knocked out.40 points would be the cutoff at 5-4 with one 5-4 team with 40 points out. In:Schurz,Steinmetz,Mather,Ag School,Orr,South Shore,Washington(Chicago),Marine Military,Kelly,Goode Stem,Carver,Nobel Pritzker,Noble UIC,Noble Golder,Noble Comer,Noble Bulls,Noble Hansberry,Chicago Academy

As the stat guy for De La Salle, it seems like our kids and coaches are excited to have the season continue. Granted, we missed the state playoffs with a heartbreaking loss to Mac, but this means at least one more game for the kids. And if we're fortunate enough to play at NU, that would be cool. I'm a Wildcats fan and I know I'd be happy as hell to be on the sidelines at Ryan Field.
Totally off-topic, did De La Salle play at Gately before building the field on campus? Back in the day, in terms of physicality/toughness, I always thought De La Salle was maybe the toughest team in the league even though they usually didn't have great talent. I did not relish the idea of a fight breaking out when De La Salle was on the other side. Also thought De La Salle had really cool uniforms when they were just blue and yellow.
De La Salle did play at Gately back in the day. thecurrent stadium on campus was their practice field (which by the way the story goes DLS accused other schools namely Carmel and Rita of having a coach sitting up on the 35th street El platform charting their practices ...that is classic). Also Rice, Leo, deSales with of course Mt. Carmel all called Gately home and Laurence played their home games at Reavis. Other than Loyola and Rita I do not think any CCL school had a stadium on campus until about 20 years ago. I remember one year MC played every single game at Gately with their "road games being De, Rice, deSales, and Leo.

If I remember correctly, when I played against Holy Cross back in the late 80's, the football field ran through the outfield of the baseball field. Is that still the case at Guerin?Who else has a "multi-purpose stadium" like DeLaSalle and North Shore Country Day?
Not sure if we have any guys older than 45 here, but did Leo ever play its games on that classic stadium on 74th and Morgan (or in that vicinity)? I'm guessing if they did, they moved them when the neighborhood became too violent (and no place to park next to the stadium)?? I wish the costs weren't so prohibitive, but I'd love to see more of those old school brick stadiums/bleachers. Especially the ones like "The Pit" where the stands were right on top of the sideline. Though that is almost impossible now because everyone (understandably and smartly) has a track encompassing their football field.
Eckersall is still there.Back in the early 90's when I was in HS Leo was still playing home games at Gately but I remember them playing a playoff game at Eckersell stadium which was on 82nd street if I remember correctly....I wonder if that stadium is still there?
