Not sure if we have any guys older than 45 here, but did Leo ever play its games on that classic stadium on 74th and Morgan (or in that vicinity)? I'm guessing if they did, they moved them when the neighborhood became too violent (and no place to park next to the stadium)?? I wish the costs weren't so prohibitive, but I'd love to see more of those old school brick stadiums/bleachers. Especially the ones like "The Pit" where the stands were right on top of the sideline. Though that is almost impossible now because everyone (understandably and smartly) has a track encompassing their football field.[/QUOTE

Over 45? Thanks!

Marist used to play on grass and the pretty much straight away center over across to right field was also football field. It is all different now the baseball field is on the other side of the school and they have turf.
And they had a guy on the roof of the building because it was so close that just about every foul ball hit to the right side went up there.

I loved that baseball field. It was very unique. Great short porch in part of left field

Back in the early 90's when I was in HS Leo was still playing home games at Gately but I remember them playing a playoff game at Eckersell stadium which was on 82nd street if I remember correctly....I wonder if that stadium is still there?
yes Ecksersall stadium is still there. has been grass has been put in and the visitor stands have been replaced with new ones

It is one of my favorite all time stadiums. I wish MC would play one game a year there, but I understand why they don't -- as I'm sure the players, parents, and coaches all prefer Friday night games at Gately. And I'm guessing, in terms of safety/security, that Gately is a more secure location. It is a classic and wonderful stadium/venue for high school football.

MC played 5A semi there in '96 , '98, '99 and Marist week 3 in '99 there
I want to say JC played there on a Wednesday playoff game against Harper in the 96 season. Would that be right or am I thinking of a different stadium?

ahhhhh the old Wed. playoff games!! From a fan standpoint that was just a great time, kids out of school early on a Wed. to attend the game, the quick turnaround to the Saturday game though was difficult. But it was a fun time and there was tremendous press coverage on those games

3 games in 7/8days and 2 are playoff games-not a fan
I hear ya and that is why it is gone but the excitement and press for those Wed. games was great....only time football was played mid-week and the press covered it like a blanket since nothing else was going on.
