Stallion's Observations on State

State fans,

I know you're pissed. I think you have a shot to beat UGA however. Here are a couple of things that killed State tonight.

1) State's starting field position was awful all night long. You aren't going to win a game against a defense like LSU starting inside the 20 on every drive. State was able to run the ball some against LSU, but being one-dimensional won't allow any offense to put enough points on the board.

2) I agreed with the rest of the board about Mullen's play calling. I thought it was suspect tonight especially on the 3rd and 1 when you guys started to get a little momentum.

3) State's o-line is horrendous against the pass. That has to improve. I think either QB can actually throw the ball. Relf gives you the best chance in my opinion if he has some time to throw b/c he's also a better runner than Russell.

4) You may be 1-2, but you haven't lost to Jacksonville State or Vandy. Keep your head up.

and he still managed his coaching staff to the point where they made us look like a bunch of incompetent tards. That is what worries me.</p>

Your LSU team reminds me a little of the '98 UT team that won the national title. Only difference is UT may have had a slightly better running game and Tee Martin was aslightly better passer.

but the defense is damn good, and I've been saying it all year that this team's overall talent is the best I've seen in awhile with the exception of QB. They are going to win ugly and run the ball. They have to figure out a way to score TDs vs. FGs but I think they are as good as anyone in the SEC with the exception of Bama.

don't know if it is the offensive line that is the problem against the pass rush - when you bring more than we can block, we have to have a back there to pick up #11. I think 11 came untouched 3 times (no back anywhere in sight) - what's worse, our qb's have to see that when it is coming and get out of the way or get rid of the football to one of the backs that is not in there blocking for you and not covered up by #11.

I agree on QB situation. Part of the QB issues though is Crowton's play calling. He has to let JJ go some. The problem with JJ is that he can't go through any progressions without panicking especially if there is a blitz on. The TD drive we scored to go up 19-7, State stopped blitzing him. I didn't understand why but I was glad to see it.

We had you guys in 3rd and long, Manny showed blitz then dropped 8 in coverage. We had a coverage breakdown, LSU picked up the first down, then TD, game over. I know Manny wishes he had that call over.

It was pretty bad, but LSU's starting field position was more of a determinig factor. What was ya'lls average start at...the MSU 40 ?

2) I agreed with the rest of the board about Mullen's play calling. I thought it was suspect tonight especially on the 3rd and 1 when you guys started to get a little momentum.

Everybody bitches about it when we lose....he's still head & shoulders above Les.

Offensive line didn't play that badly...especially if this LSU D is the next best thing ever. They actually moved that vaunted front 4 around a little bit in the middle of the game

4) You may be 1-2, but you haven't lost to Jacksonville State or Vandy. Keep your head up.

Agreed. We're right where everyone thought we'd be.....

WE lost tonight because of one thing: turnovers, and plenty of them. How many drives started deep in our territory?Thank God LSU has a horrible collection of misfits for head coach, off coordinator, andcrappy QB play and we have a decent defense. How many points off turnovers for LSU....16 or 23 ?(can't remember on last TD). LSU only punted once all night, yet we outgained them by 4 yards......

In the case of the interception/fumble, I am pretty sure that was the one, to the d-lineman from Russell, #11 ran right past the running back. I watched the replay to see who missed the block, but I couldn't tell. I think he was too short for me to make it out without rewinding so it must've been Perkins. I didn't care enough to use the DVR, but I know the LB came right past the RB like he wasn't there. Didn't pay enough attention to the rest of them, but the pressure definitly lead to the bad throws.

I thought we were setting up some sort of a misdirection screen by the way our RB let him go. Unfortunately, they got to Russell too quickly.

1. Everyone keeps mentioning this field position like it was just bad luck. The field position is what it was because we suck. You got no talent *** clowns playing on the kick off and punt cover teams. How many more times is 42 going to TKO'd before someone takes him off the field. Then later in the game he just runs right past the KR. Which the KR then proceeds to run 50 yards without one of those black jersey's within 5 yards. Our field position was a direct result of terrible players.

2. Does play calling really matter when your OL is a bunch of girls. Your RB is small and slow. One QB is a dumb as a post and the other as a mobile as a post.

3. It does not HAVE to improve. It won't either. Same sorry SOBs have been playing for a couple of years. They will start and play the rest of the year.

4. Yeah, but we have not played them either. Keep your head up State fans.......deer season is around the corner.

Last year, in Dan's fourth game as head coach, he and his staff outcoached the LSU staff by leaps and bounds. This year, after a full year of being head coach, not so much.

The interception when the blind side blitz got Russell to float the ball to the DLineman, it was #2 that let the LB by like a f'n matador in a bullfight. At that point in the game I briefly considered nicknaming Elliott "revolving door".

This is the problem with freshmen RBs. They have very little experience blocking. Even Jerious Norwood didn't play much his freshman year due to him needing to learn to bread blitzes and block.

I nominate nicknaming our offensive line "busted condom".

And unless Jefferson rids himself of his *****-like tendencies, then LSU is destined for underachieving yet again. Which sucks for the rest of the team.

That was actual a super play call and would have been a big gainer had Russell gotten rid of the ball earlier and LSU's D-Line being better at catching than MSU receivers.

he got hit as he was turning around to lob the ball over the defenders... unfortunately our OL is too good at letting defenders run by them and they were already on top of Russell.

It is a crying shame you are DS's cousin; otherwise, we wouldn't have to put up with your utter ******** every week.
