Stallworth breaks the law, kills a person, gets 30 days. Burress breaks the law, shoots himself, gets 2 years. I'm not sure where I stand, but does this seem fair?

Im pretty sure he turned down a 3 month prison sentence plea because he was "scared to death" of prison...but now he ends up with 2 years.</p>

2 years is better than 3.5 years but the prosecuting attorney would offer the same to you or me for a plea of guilty. I don't think he got hosed or special treatment given the mandatory sentence.

I heard a guy on the radio try to justify it by saying what plax did was intentional, while what stalworth did was accidental. Not that I agree with it, just saying

When you have a crapload of people living on top of one another, you really don't need people running around with guns without a permit. You especially don't need people with firearms in a nightclub.

the guy was in the left lane of a 6 lane interstate on foot at 7 in the morning.

Burress had a firearm pulled in a crowded nightclub potentially murdering someone and was dumb enough to shoot himself.

I fully believe Burress deserves that. If I'm in a bar and somone is waiving around a pistol and it goes off. Whether it hits himself or the ceiling, the son of a ***** should go to jail because I couldve died

If you want to chew gum and spit it on the sidewalk, don't do it in Singapore. If you want to date a black person, don't do it in Mississippi. And if you want to shoot yourself in the leg with a concealed gun, don't do it in NY.

Also, the only reason the NRA isn't touching this is because its a black athlete. If Travis Tritt had gotten arrested somewhere with a concealed weapon, they would have 890 2nd amendment lawyers on the case.

Its 2009 dumbass, we have a black president. Wake the <17> up african americans have every bit as many rights/advantages/opportunities as whites, hispanics, asians, pacific islanders and anyone else, even in Mississippi. ******** like you are the ones who perpetuate the national myths that many in the Northeast still think the Klan is relevant here.

I live in Madison, Mississippi perhaps the most affluent area of Mississippi. There are interracial couples everywhere here. Just because you moved away you have no right to speak on the state of race relations as a whole in Mississippi.

If Travis Tritt was stupid enough to carry a gun into a crowded nightclub and discharge it, I can promise you no reasonable right wing 2nd amendment zealots (I know plenty) would dare take up for him.

I don't know how you perceive things, but I have no desire to go into a club where people are walking around with concealed weapons with or without permits.

All this being said lock it up...

I have always been under the impression that he hadn't actually pulled the gun but that it fell from his waistband and discharged into his leg. I've got far less sympathy (not much sympathy to begin with) if he had pulled it out and shot himself. He just shouldn't have been trying to perpetuate the thug lifestyle by carrying a concealed, unregistered firearm. He's a multi-millionaire, hire a bodyguard moron. Plus, its on him for not knowing the laws and consequences in his home state.
