Can't tell what's more pathetic, those West division baseball standings or the West division basketball standings most years.
The West is typically really strong in baseball. There is a good chance a team will win the West with a 15-15 record.
The fact that LSU is at the bottom of the West with an 11-16 record but is 22-3 against everyone else says alot about the toughness of the West. The East is tougher no doubt but they do benefit from playing horrible UT and UK teams 6 times each (as did Ole Miss it should be noted).
As did 4 of the West teams.
Don't complain to me about unbalanced schedules either. We went through a 6 year period (2004-2009) where we missed the worst or tied for the worst team 5 times, and many of those years we were a game or two from winning the West or the overall SEC outright. You actually did get to play the worst team in the East, though you did miss Kentucky.
I agree there is parity in the West, but the level of play in the West is down. We could theoretically win the West still, but even if we did, I wouldn't change my position. The West is beating up on itself, but there is a 7 game difference between the Top 3 teams in the SEC and the top 4 (tied) in the West. That disparity doesn't exist simply because Arkansas didn't get to play UT and you didn't get to play Kentucky. It exists because the West is down. Arkansas is the only West team that has a chance to host, and they have to win at least 2, if not 3 this weekend to put themselves in that position.
Call it what you want, but the West usually has at least two teams that are going to host. It's a division full of mediocre this year.
