holding the ball for the full time lessens the number of possessions that Jarvis is not on defense.

as big of an expert as you are, you could see that. We're a halfcourt team. Our typical set runs clock, whether its in the first half, or second half. And if a couple of the last few shots we've taken had gone in (and they were all pretty good looks), we'd still be way up. You knew Vandy would make a run - they're a damn good team.

Basketball 101. We completely stopped being aggressive on offense whcih is what built the lead. We started standing around, running the clock down and taking bad shots, then within 7 minutes our lead is gone.

It's happened time and time again.

I will repeat this. If you think that is a good plan YOU ARE A MORON.

have been decent shots. It's just they were falling in the first half. When they miss, they turn into "bad shots".

The shots we started taking were shots we HAD to take because we were late in the clock. The shots we hit earlier were in the rhythm of the offense.

rhythm.......When you do, what's happening now is the result......I've seen it hundreds of times.....But it's not just Stansbury that does this.....I've seen a lot of coaches do the same thing.........

Tell me what is wrong with running time off a clock?

When you start running clock at the 13 minute mark....you are supposed to stay in your regular offense, that's how you got the 17'ing lead in the first place

We have an offense? Ya'll need to start getting your stories straight.

What I'm trying to say is that even our normal offense runs the clock down low in the shot clock.

but to say "Basketball 101" in response to that post was pretty stupid. We have the worst "stall" offense in the country but that is the EXACT thing that 100% of coaches in the country do with a 15 point lead in the 2nd half.

Coach is definitely right on this one, and it was more like the 16 minute mark. It's like we think, "oh ****, we're not supposed to be up this big against them, we can't blow out a top 25 team"

A press forces you to speed up the tempo, and we were breaking the press every time, but we still passed up opportunities to have 3 on 2 situations where we could've gotten open looks or layups (we were just determined not to take shots early in the shot clock, no matter how good the opportunity)

We weren't stalling, Jarvis goes out and we did the smart thing by slowing the pace. We had good looks and they were good shots they just didn't go down. Mainly from legfatigue and emotions were getting somewhat drain from two great efforts.

Here's the deal with some folks, we slow down and run some offense and folks *****, we get out and run and folks *****, Stans had two great game plans, let's hope we can get up one more time, you know our guys have to be physically and emotionally tired!

We lost our aggressiveness in the second half. We did it last night against Florida. Do I have to remind you that we did it against Kentucky and that was just with three minutes left??????? We go from at least trying to run whatever our offense is to exchanging passes at mid-court, then with 8 seconds left trying to get something off the same high ball screen our opponents have seen a thousand times. This is not football. You can't hold the ball in hoops and grind out the clock. I don't know how this passive philosophy with 13 minutes left or 8 like last night or 3 like against UK is even defensible. Thankfully we won the game but it doesn't always work out like that for us.

And I can promise that our fans (other than this board apparently) would riot if we were jacking up shots like normal with 25 seconds on the shot clock and a 10+ point lead.

our "stall" offense eliminated probably 10 possessions from Vandy today.

We had our feet on their throats with 13-14 minutes left. We changed our approach to things, and within 6-7 minutes it was a nailbiter again. I just don't understand the desire to shorten the game when you have a chance to blow someone out. We were on a roll. A few more good possessions from us and Vandy feels the pressure more, and before you know it you have a 20 point lead. Sure, it's not that simple. But the lead we had was not insurmountable. Until you get to that point, you shouldn't make running clock be your first priority. Make no mistake about it, that was our first priority the last 12 minutes. It's like we are afraid to try and win the game handily, so we just hope the clock will run out. Today it worked. Against UK and Richmond it did not.

slowing the pace against Florida and Vandy actually worked 2 days in a row. For a second there I actually thought you knew what you were talking about...

he makes it ugly... I think you are being short-sighted here..

You think that because we were up 15 that means that we "could" be up 30 (like the UK style beat down today) but that isn't typical and if you watched the UK/UT game you would see that it was a close game at 39-39 and the final was 74-35. Basketball is a game of runs and we have made ours early twice this weekend... Stans realizes this and tries to give Vandy less time to make their run. UK made their run at the end today and it made the score look bad..

I have no issue with that and while it does lead to some heartburn I think it gives us a better chance to win (maybe by less points) than if we tried to run and gun for 40 minutes.

is to try to limit the number of possessions. Running and gunning in that situation is akin to throwing the ball up by 2 scores late in the 4th quarter. It might work, and you might wind up winning by 21 instead of maybe 7, but the less risky play is to be a little more conservative. Just a philosophical difference. There are times when it is appropriate to be on the conservative side. You also have to take into account that Stans might've been trying to let the guys rest a few seconds on offense since we have little depth.

Oh, wait, what? The exact opposite would happen? There would be 27 threads on the front page about how stupid Mullen is for throwing the ball up by 14?

I swear our fans are mentally challenged.

I know Kentucky is good but I didn't know they held UT to -4 in the last 12 minutes.

My point is why change what you were doing that got you up 15. This much cannot be denied. We took nice halftime lead and ran it out to 15 in the first part of the second half. After that, we changed the way we were playing, and the game got tight again. There's a time and place for running clock and up 15 with 13 to play is not it.

You and idiot, but hey you are Stands Bury's *****..

We did the same thing last night and almost lost. I am glad we got the win, but if we get up on UK and try that **** we are done.
I like how Osby has been playing.... Let's hope we get hot again tomorrow. Go dawgs...
