Not really sure what it's even called, it was just a video produced by UK to honor the team after winning the title that year. I was in 8th grade in 1998 and my parents bought it for both me and my brother.

I think it was called "Comeback Cats", the same as the SI cover.

I was born in KY (Ireland Army Hospital, Dr. Knox) and my family is(was now rip) from Allen County.

But I spent most of my life in the Bay Area and Stanford has always been my B team. My little brother is an Alum now.

I remember that game obviously. It was intense and could have easily gone the other way. I cheered for UK of course but I hated every min of that game. It was (metaphorically obviously) like watching yourself have to beat up your nearly adult son because he decided he was a man now and punched you in the mouth......it had to be done but there was no joy in it.


Stanford had a long run (not unlike the current football team) where they got some really good players and got close but never over the hump all the way....

But you have to respect that level of success because no matter how dook or Notre Dame or USC claim academic superiority there is not one other school that competes in a big 5 league and has anywhere near the academic requirements of Stanford.

You have to be able to meet the same requirements academically as any other student, the only benefit athletes get (beyond scholly) is they move to the front of the line... Unlike everyone else they do not lower the threshold for GPA/SAT/ACT to help athletes get in.

The only other schools on their level all play in the IVY league and don't even try.


Remember that when you judge the football team against the other big boys. They not only have to find great athletes, they have to find great athletes that have 4.0 GPA's and can handle both the insane football work load that the Alabamas and Ohio States have but also the course work that Harvard or Yale students have.

Andrew Luck graduated early with a ridiculously hard major. How many teams have 1st round caliber offensive lineman who major in astro physics with a 4.0?

HeMu Evans was just a monster for that Team. It just seemed anytime UK needed a big play, Evans provided it. And if the arrow isn't pointing UK's way late in the game, who knows how it could have ended.

My friend who is a UNC fan always tells me that was the game we were lucky to win. Most teams who win the title have one game like that.

I'll remember that game till the day I die. I was at a family gathering at my sister's house with her now ex husband (UL fan). His brother and wife came over (big UL fans) wearing Stanford shirts they bought that day. They even had their 3 year old running around saying "Go Cardinals!" Which of course isn't their mascot. My sister, parents, and myself are all huge serious UK fans. So that entire game was a grind. My dad kept saying UK was fine all game. When we won my sister and I jumped around high fiving each other and pretty much being obnoxious. I didn't care. They deserved it for that crap they tried to pull.

you know - I know we all cheer for certain teams (other than our own) in the tourney because a) they're a huge underdog and upsets can be fun; b) former coach, or player or some other connection to Kentucky; or c) we hate the team they're playing so much
But, honestly - how ridiculous is it to buy gear for that school for one freaking game (that you have no connection to)?

I know people always talked about Duke and Utah in 1998 and I agree those moments were awesome but how bout that Stanford game? Was anybody nervous going into that game?

The 10 point lead Utah had in the title game is still the biggest lead held and that team lost the game

My memory of this game is of being really, really angry until it was over. Stanford was a very solid team, but losing to them seemed like the equivalent of falling off Mt Everest on a descent from the summit. Like you did something spectacular (the Duke game), then screwed up something that should have been a hell of a lot easier.
